I know it's just the dev unit and i know the screens inside aren't full 1080 and i know it's all just prototypes and beta software and i know a consumer unit will be way better and i know i'll have to buy another one down the line
but every time i watch someone use it and see all the cool shit i just wanna run right to their site and give them my money.
am i alone?
-
I won't, but I want to. not alone.
-
I have a hmz. Shit is so cash.
-
I have a HMZ - it's a complete piece of shit. well... not completely. But the fucking thing is uncomfortable as hell - you can't fill your full vision with the damn thing - there's limited notched eye placement options and, as i have the first edition, i'm stuck with the shitty headphones.
-
We have two at work -- hold off for the next version, once it drops NOBODY will want the original hardware.
-
I would've got a dev unit if I already had a good pc, wouldn't have been able to help myself. I'm a laptop only dirtperson still though so no dice. I vow to have a good rig before this thing comes out, I have never seen but i believe

nyet

What's coming up in the next release?
-
No. It falls into that Ouya/Wii U category of throwing money down a hole for little or no tangible benefit.
-
I want one, but my current PC is a POS.

tell me stories of how awesome it is
-
I want an oculus rift, but I'll wait for a hw revision + price drop. The videos make it look too fun. I'm not doing any of that rollercoaster video shit though, that'd be like waterboarding me :'(
-
I'm pretty much in the wait+see crowd, but I'm very optimistic about this technology. I hope it becomes a big thing in enthusiast gaming and alters what people expect from their gaming experiences.
Just counting the days until I can plug my brain directly into a computer.
-
I'm not excited enough to buy one, but I'm looking forward to trying it out.
-
I'm dumb enough. Infact I'm dumb enough that I put money down on it a couple of weeks ago. I know I'm going to buy the consumer version too but this is just something I gotta have. Fuck PS4 and Xbone.

This thing is going to be awesome

Wait, what's this? VR is back? I was just talking with someone how VR never went anywhere after the being the "it thing" in the 90's... thought it would end up like other failed future tech like flying cars... well color me a bit surprised.

I played through the entirety of Half-Life 2 wearing this motherfucker and it was TRANSCENDENT

It's just a monitor strapped to your head, right? Or is head movement supposed to substitute analog controls for the camera or something?
cause all i want is monitor strapped to my head

it has gyroscopic but no depth. so you can turn your head, tilt and stuff but leaning in does nothing...
but i believe they want to do depth as well.

Just wait till people start using this for porn
-
POV porn flood incoming.
-
I want to try it. I wish I had a rich friend to bought shit like this :-\ I've seen videos of people losing their balance while wearing it and I wonder if that's real or if they're just hamming it up for the camera. It can't be that hard to stand straight
-
I don't see why they would be. Contradicting information from their eyes is probably what's causing it. Basically the same as seasickness.

Simple way to fix it is just have a camera/Kinect track it. Kinect 2 is supposed to come to PCs sometime in 2014. I can imagine people finding ways of getting the two to work together.

I don't remember being moved this much from such a short post.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, how many is a .gif worth?
-
1000 x # of frames

This is so incredibly clever that I angers me I never thought of it.

This is actually one of the more clever things you can do with the Oculus Rift ... someone's made a movie theater set for watching YouTube. And I'd love to see an "80s room" like you see there with some hooks for the emulator of your choice (SCUMM, AGI, etc.)
-
that's cool I guess, but it seems to me like a glorified faux arcade cabinet or pinball table that you can download for iOS or android or whatever.
I'm more into this shit
