Just replayed RDR and am getting back into multi....And I must say tbat this game was Rockstar's gem this generation.
What a fantastic setting and I am surprised to say that the multi is still active on XBL. I have no issues joining a free roam, gang shootout, or poker game.
In short....In my opinion this game is in the top 5 this generation. I would appreciate any thoughts, pro or con, you have.

I've yet to play it. Held out for a PC version and then it got kinda lost on my list because that's never happening. Sadness.

It's a 15 hour-ish game that probably should have been more like 10. But it's pretty darn good.

This was probably my favorite game this gen. Between single- and multiplayer, I've got about 300 hours in it. The continuous improvements made to the multiplayer, added features, modes, gimmes/freebies... just fabulous.
It was so good to be surprised by Rockstar after GTA IV was such a technically impressive but dead-gameplay letdown.

One of my fave games this gen. The moments of sheer happiness it has given me are endless. I love westerns so this game was highly anticipated by me.
- The first hour of the game riding round. Getting used to your horse.
- Being caught in a thunder storm with the surround sound on
- In fact the sound, period on this game is crazy good.
- Trying to get the achievement of killing and skinning every animal and creature in the game from a bear all the way down to a small ass rabbit
- Finally finding bigfoot
- How good every gun feels when you use them
- The growling sound when a cougar has sneaked up behind you. :omg
- Collecting flowers :-*
- Shooting 6 guys in the head with dead eye while riding a horse
- How enjoyably creepy the forests are especially at night
- How subtle it is when you slowly notice it's snowing as you climb up the mountains
- Hunting down bandits killing their men, tying them up and delivering back to the sheriff
- The whole Mexico section :heartbeat
- The stranger missions
- Tying your horse up and waking into the wilderness on foot. With just a hand weapon to ward off a pack of wolves
- dat 'ending'
- in multiplayer free roam getting shot by a posse of 7 dickheads. Stalking them for 20 mins and taking two of them out with the sniper rifle while the others give chase across the map before running into another group raiding a mine and all hell breaking loose. :lol
And finally for now
- When you learn that when someone steals your horse whistling makes the horse rear up and throw them off
I could add tons more moments the game is just so good.
The best thing about RDR and GTA:IV and Max Payne 3? You could see that R* were slowly getting that control and understanding over their engine that's why GTAV is a day one game for me.

Loved RDR but I don't know if I loved it more than GTA San Andreas. Obviously RDR is more polished and playable than SA but I'll always remember driving my microbus out of the hills to San Fierro for the first time with America's "A Horse With No Name" playing on the radio and planes streaking across the night sky. SA might be butt fucking ugly at times but at that moment it was amazing.
And speaking of that, I'm still kind of pissed off about the first time I got to Mexico in RDR only to be immediately attacked by wolves which cut off the song that plays the first time you enter the country. IMO that's one of the best moments in the game and I missed it on my first play through.

San Andreas was my game of last generation (along with RE 4) and Red Dead is certainly in my top three for Game of this generation. I'd probably still give the slight nod to Mass Effect 2 for me but Red Dead is an amazing game. Certainly my favorite open world game this gen by far.

got the same thing and played it for only a few hours. was fun, definitely followed the same formula as gta, but i couldnt get past the jank to really get into it. every time i went into the desert i'd expect a long walk through a huge empty area, but instead it'd always be filled with random shootouts, cowboys flying around the desert at superhuman speed, and way too many bandits. game felt like it had more going on that gta4, and that killed the atmosphere and my desire to keep going.

Is RDR another case of a multi-plat game sucking on the PStriple or is it ok? Asking because I'm probably picking up a triple in the near future.

360 is the better version but it's not like another Baynoetta situation where the PS3 game is a joke. Should be fine.

As long as you don't see the 360 version it should be cool.

colors are a bit washed out, and you get more pop-in than you would on 360 (in other words, it looks noticeably better on 360), but it runs fine

one of the best games of the gen. couldn't get into the multi and got bored with the zombies tho.

I'm very interested to see what the follow up will look like. Safe choice might be taking it back to the civil war. Red Dead is great and hit most spots if you're a fan of westerns, and I don't know how far they can get away from that setting. But this is the rare game where I'd be OK with more of the same.

yeah thats my main (only!) beef with the game, is that the pacing in Mexico fell flat, and the narrative and missions made little sense in the story arc of the game, and felt like padding. And that euphoria physics engine... hoo boy. Quite often spent a minute trying to walk onto a staircase.
Other than that, incredible game. My favourite online multi EVER

Singleplayer: Mexico was completely balls, with the exception of the old legendary gunslinger, and the "impasse" joke during the poker game. The storyline there, where Marston is slaughtering on both sides of the revolutionary movement, is bereft of the moral dilemma wavering which affects the main character throughout most of the rest of the game. He's just murdering people all over, and it needed a little more "I've got no choice in this" feeling, or a better mission design allowing for him to choose a side to support.
Multiplayer: I never was able to work out the thumb-magick to get the ducking-roll/spin/lock-on/headshot like some of the high-level players do. Actually, I could never even get the timing for consecutive rolls. :-\
Running into players who could do that always surprised the hell out of me, because I'd shoot them two or three times, but the first shot would be the only one that hit, and then I'd be dead from a headshot. :maf
From time to time, I still consider going back for my 100x headshots with the axe, so I could get a golden tomahawk. That tomahawk map was just a blast. I have rarely giggled so much, or experienced so much butt-clenching tension, as on that map.
Griefers sucked, but it was fun to introduce them to the tomahawk a few times after they'd put one over on me.
I wasn't happy that the collection Challenges from singleplayer had to be re-done in the multiplayer game all over again. I can't remember offhand if it had to be done for an Achievement, or if it was just my OCD (and desire for mp Titles to use).
