In an interview with Pachter, which will be published later this week, Pachter estimates that consumers can expect to pay around $399 for the Xbox One and about $349 for the PS4. "The boxes will both sell out at the above prices," he said, when asked which he believes will have the more successful launch. And given the pre-order records being set by the Xbox One, I tend to believe him.
When asked who will come out on top once E3 is gone and passed, Pachter responded: "I think both Sony and Microsoft will perform really well, and think that gamers come out on top, because they will have more choices than ever before." So with the first round of next-gen console reveals already in the bag, all eyes are now on the E3 press conferences. GameZone's interview with Michael Pachter will be published in full later this week.

1) why would xbone cost more than PS4?
2) why would either of them be as low as $349?
-
xbone may cost more than ps4 because it's bigger. See all those fan vents? Will be more expensive to produce. not to mention kinect.
-
XO has cloud catching capabilities. Really expensive tech

kinect

I thought the Kinect and GDDR5 would balance each other out. I'm expecting both systems to launch at $450.
-
I think both are likely to be $399 minimum. Unless one of them releases some kind of super-distinguished mentally-challenged fellow pack (like the 8GB Wii U was)

I lol'ed
-
I honestly expect them to be about $500. If they're $399, consider yourselves lucky.
-
You can't really go mass market at 500 but that's not who consoles sell to at launch anyway so...
-
I figured they would be 350 or so with a mandatory 2 year monthly payment plan for gold/+ services.
-
If the Xbone is $500 I'm gonna laugh my ass off. $350 for the PS4 sounds very optimistic, but then again perhaps the tard pack could hit that price with the full pack at $400
-
No way either of these consoles will be $350 w/o some heavy subscription plan. That's either $50 more or $50 less than comparable PS3s/360s.
My stupid guess is that $400 is the absolute lowest, but both the PS3 and 360 will get significant price drops.
Another thing, the current PS3 controller is going for $55, so how much with the PS4 controller end up costing? PS4 controller is the PS3 controller + bigger battery + touchpad + lightbar + better motion sensing junk + headphone bit - analog buttons.
-
I'm hoping for $400, but would be really happy with less.

I bought the $600 tard pack and got a lot less last generation. If I do buy a new console, it will be a kid asking for it for some special occasion.
If I get any enjoyment from it. It will be ancillary.
-
I could see $350 for the PS4. They're gonna charge for online this go around, and you're not gonna be able to do shit on it without a paid PSWorld or whatever the fuck they're calling it subscription, so they might bank on that and try to undercut MS. I expect XBL Silver for XB1 will be even more worthless than it currently is, but the expensive hardware in Kinect 2 will keep the price a bit higher.
-
Professional speculator speculates.
Reasonable prices sound reasonable.
I know everyone says the US$599 price point hurt the PS3 early on, but didn't it still sell out everywhere?
-
$400 is what I'm expecting.
yep and $450-500 for the bigger SKU.
Anything lower would be crazy but welcomed
-
I wonder if he tells his kids what he predicts they'll be getting at Christmas.
-
$399-499 for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if they charged $299 for a system + 3 year payment plan.
Sony is too broke to sell the PS4 at an insane loss like they used to for their previous consoles and the Xbone will come with Kinect.
-
MS played it very smart this time,I wouldn't be surprised if Xboner gets some ridiculously low price.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if they do a $199 with 2 year Gold contract.
-
I would bite at that price.

Deals like that would have the potential to really fuck with Nintendo... if Sony did them as well I mean. There's a gamble that people might not be prepared to commit to paying for online services, but given people pay for mobile contracts, netflix, lovefilm and god knows what else I think they probably would. And Nintendo can't exactly offer a similar subsidisation deal, their services don't have the good reputation to carry it off.
It would be a barrier for people with bad credit though, and young teens / children. I'd balk at it personally, but only because I'd tot up the whole price in my head (I doubt 199 + 2 years of Live would be enough btw - more like 3/4 years)
-
Both will be $399 and Nintendo will cut the price of the Wii U to $249 while increasing flash memory.

This is a thread for speculation on next gen hardware only, sir. Please understand.
-
I just realized I'm so uninterested in the WiiU I had no idea what the price even was.

I don't know either, but the answer is certainly "too much"
-
I had to look, 300 and 350 for weeeooo. Thing needs to be $250 for the high end one if they want anybody to even consider it. Also I'd say $400 for Xboner and PS4.
