Yay, I can't wait to play all my homebrew games and back-ups of my legitimately purchased retail 3DS games!
-
Hot known if it enables homebrew and may not do imports. Not sure if want.
-
its one game per miniSD card
loooool
I guess you could just wipe the game from the card after beating it

i love how homebrew isn't even a euphemism anymore, since you rarely ever see it meaning "independently developed"

They said they have a game loader running. The video is old.
-
oh cool
the temptation is palpable
-
This means more vita games
-
Nope
-
I hope the first update that blocks this also bricks the consoles of people who use it
I like this handheld, I don't want another R4 situation where people basically stop investing in games

Good for those who are going to backup all their games to a single SD card, I guess. Both of them must be very happy right now.
He makes a good point/joke with "both of them".
WHO is going to 'backup' their games? With WHAT? People pretending they backed up their Wii games in Wii homebrew threads was farcical enough, but at least that was possible for anyone who softmodded, potentially.
This is a card you'll have to download games for. Think people will just download the games they own?
Some fucking disingenuous cheaparse pirating cunts in that thread already, I'd mind less if they were honest.
Cool if this works with Japanese games I'll import both Project Mirai games
So get this guy... He's gonna import a game, then download it illegally, because he's bought it now.
Liars and thieves.

I've downloaded ROMs for games that I own Japanese physical copies of. That's way faster than ripping them myself.

Japanese games were perfectly playable on DS before this. Would you buy a Japanese physical game that you couldn't possibly play then download it for this device, or would you just download it for this device?
The region lock circumvention is a plus but I just can't see this being good for 3DS and the 3DS games market generally.
I really hate GAFs hive-like dishonesty over things like this.
-
The region lock is the number one thing keeping me from being interested in one, so this is great news. I might end up buying one if this develops (or if the region lock turns out to be a non-issue, but that's doubtful).
-
I'd only care if it had region lock bypass so I can play DQ7 assuming that game never gets an English release.
If the game gets an English release then I'm buying a physical copy day 1 in hopes of helping DQ stay relelvant in NA.

It depends on the game. If I'm willing to play a game in Japanese it's probably because it's a game in one of my favorite series and then I would like to have the game in my collection. For instance, I own 13 Japanese Megami Tensei games and they were all fairly cheap. Just as an example, I paid about $5 for the first SNES game and then went over to Aeon Genesis to download the fan translation.

I don't know about this gaf business you're talking about, but ripping GBA and DS games is pretty simple. Not as simple as downloading, obviously, but there's also the matter of backing up your save and whatnot. No clue if that's possible with the 3DS yet.
-
YESSSS FINALLY I CAN RETURN TO HANDHELD GAMING
-
No region bypass. Bootleg Japanese roms still only play on J3DS and vice versa.
It's a start, hopefully in a year we'll get some useful flash cards and stuff out of this.

Hey, baby steps. This is a start. I may go out and buy a 3DS tomorrow now. If I can pirate and stick it to Capcom and Nintendo I will.
My major worry is that a firmware update will somehow block this.
-
then don't update it

PROJECT MIRAI DO WANT

True. It isn't like it's the Vita where you get a few new things from those firmwares now and then.
And I doubt the 3DS requires them for the times I do buy (read: Atlus/NISA) DS games...
-
I agree. I want to modify my PSP, is only so that I can play grand theft auto at the unlockable clockspeed which makes it playable at the same frame rate as a PS2 instead of the slideshow it is in the native PSP clockspeed.
-
modifying your psp is stupid easy now; iirc all you have to do is download a file or two and run them on your psp. works great.
-
I backed up all my Wii games to a hacked Wii because the US Wii i had has got the shitty GPU chip thing going on. This means i bought THREE WII's which is at least 3 too many. I have since sold just about every Wii game - i'll get around to wiping the HDD as soon as i can....
However DS/GBA? yeah - open season i'm afraid. DS LL with an Evo + 32 Gig card... #swooooon
You know - a DS Micro with cards and cheap downloadable games could really work. I have a GBA Micro that i still have as "emergency can't carry anything" entertainment
Oh and as for PSP? Yeah - download a couple of files. run and you are done. Plus it's hotswitchable so you can still go online legit!
PSP Go = Good lord. So good. Better form factor, pair it with a Dual shock, get a cradle + output cable and away you go: TV big screen emu box of forever + PSP games -and- simply slot it in your pocket for ultimate retro transfart awesome. Greatest Sony machine ever.
-
Will this help with region locking? i really don't want to buy a jp 3ds just to play animal crossing new leaf in japanese.
-
I don't see why it wouldn't. If they make it flash the hardware to get around the lock or something I'm sure it'd happen. I mean they had "slot-1" bypassing to have the DS read the SD card you slapped into a GBA-sized flash-cart back in the DS era. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to have some-type of bypass like that for the region lock.

I am still bitter Sony dropped Bluetooth controller support for the DS3 in the Vita. My fighting games. :'(

Wait, the PSP Go is hackable? And it's a two click easy thing?
Might have to buy that shit
-
I think PSP might still require certain firmware, so if it's totally up to date, it won't work. But there are tons of used PSPs that have been sitting there forever, so it's easy to get one with the right stuff. Last time I got one at GS, I just asked the dude to let me check the FW until I got one I wanted and he didn't care.

yeah. been some time since I did it myself, but it's seriously just dragging some files to the Go's internal storage and running an app.
Don might be right about the firmware causing problems. I don't know.

Nope. The last firmware update they did (there hasn't been one in over a year now, might as well say the platform is abandoned) is compatiable with the exploit. Search 6.02-TN or whatever and then use that. It's simple now. Braindead compared to the 1.05 firmware exploit days.
