The pedestrian who was struck and killed during a police chase in Santa Ana was identified Friday as 33-year-old Andrew Scott Reisse. Coworkers described him as a "brilliant mind."
Reisse, a Santa Ana resident, was walking in a crosswalk when he was struck and killed at the end of a police chase Thursday.
Reisse's father, who lives in Virginia, said his son moved to Southern California about a year ago. Reisse co-founded Oculus VR in Irvine, a company known for its virtual reality headsets for immersive gaming.
"Andrew was a brilliant computer graphics engineer, an avid photographer and hiker who loved nature, a true loyal friend, and a founding member of our close-knit Oculus family," the company said in a statement.

This is seriously an awful thing to have happened at this stage of Oculus' development. I hope if anything it makes the team stronger. The man brought to life a vision that I can't put into words. But if you've experienced Oculus on you own you know what i'm talking about. It's something very special.

144 people? That's a slow week in gun deaths for us. 'MERICA!
(seriously tho this news is fucked up, RIP oculus rift dude)

Shitty news, guy sounded like a brilliant mind and yeah way too soon for him to go. RIP
-
Why did they chase the gang? Aren't the police trained to use nets and lassos?
-
That's awful. Years ago a friend's Aunt got t-boned at an intersection during a police chase, and it left her permanently disabled. With the network of communication they have, and helicopters, etc, there's really not much reason for these types of dangerous high-speed chases anymore.

RIP
Almost got hit by a police car once when I had my headphones on real loud and wasn't paying attention.
When I hear sirens now and I'm crossing the road. I keep my ass on the pavement until I see which direction they're coming from.
-
FYI he was killed by the thug's car, not the police car.
-
Very sad. I hope the driver and all the passengers get charged with murder.
