My brother is gay. Overall my parents treat him fine to his face, but have made some pretty ugly comments to me in private; they stem from a very Christian perspective on things so I'm sure you can guess the general stuff they say.

Yesterday my uncle called me; I've mentioned him before, he's very computer illiterate and obsessed with Roman history. He's also one of the most ignorant people I've ever met, but in that "smart dumb nicca" way, like the unemployed articulate 5 Percenter at the barbershop trying to sell pyramid schemes. I didn't know he knew my brother was gay until this conversation, however in hindsight it makes sense; my brother is very flamboyant and super gay, so everyone who meets him figures it out.

Naturally the conversation was derailed by Roman history, and he mentioned how Caeser was afraid of his right hand man Sulla. Sulla was gay apparently and my uncle noted he was a girly man but the most ruthless killer. He explained his general point: gay people may seem weak but they're often the most vicious heartless killers. Now I'm quite familiar with this bullshit, which seems to originate from the fake story that Hitler's fiercest warriors were the gay nazis because they were heartless (lol). I wanted to just laugh at this stupid story and call it pure ignorance, and tell him he should be ashamed for this stupidity. Instead I just said "eh that's not true..." He then said "I know but you get my point right?"

Because pride festivals are more than about being gay, they're about acceptance and pride in ones self. Something, someone who is black, should be very familiar with.

I'm not gay and I've been to a lot of lgbt events. Of course, I identify with the b and t parts of that, but being gay is not a requirement to support or have fun.

pride festival round here is always fun as shit. they got performers on stage, a huge parade attended by local performers, clubs, and politicians, fair food, and shops and other booths. just a good time to hang out and have fun.
