His phone comparison is absolute shit too.

What happens when I dont have internet available, or disable my 3G/4G connection. I CAN STILL CALL PEOPLE WITH MY PHONE

I can't even fucking play videogames on my VIDEO GAME CONSOLE when I have no internet.

What in the flying fuck.

The only sentence that was business double talk was where he fucked up and told people to just buy a 360 instead.

Even if it wasn't "double-talk" it was stupid to recommend the 360 over the next X-box. I mean where are you going to go "oh, yeah our shiny new thing is great... but not for you?"

But they are committed to excellence and built a box by gamers for gamers and this is a device built with internet in mind and you don't know how these online features are going to enrich your experience because this is a long term vision and I got a degree in business school and I make millions a year, so why do I drink myself to sleep every night?

I'm probably locked into it for at least another year regardless of the fact that I'm not buying a Xbox One anytime soon.  My kids and their friends are still balls deep into Minecraft on our 360s plus they're really the only devices in our house outside of the computers and ipads/iphones that can access HBO Go.

Sony really needs to get HBO Go.

Which I'm sure is a cool game, but that was perhaps the most boring trailer I've ever seen. Like 5 mins of tanks shooting and driving. I get thats what the game is, but it dosen't look exciting.

Hell I'd take the wtf Ellen Paige game over whatever they had for the 360.

Stop talking, MS.

Quote from: Phil Harrison
One other area where Sony won points was its pricing. At £349, the PlayStation 4 is £80 cheaper than the Xbox One's RRP of £429. It's not an insignificant amount of money, but Harrison is confident that the Xbox One will justify the extra. "We feel great about the value of Xbox One," he says. "It's a unique architecture, with Kinect and the power of the cloud. What we showed yesterday was the most incredible games lineup in any first few months of a platform launch, many of which are exclusive and all of which have advantages being on Xbox One. That's what's really going to drive value. We couldn't be happier with the price we're starting at."

In those few occasions you don't have access to your usual broadband connection, you could tether your Xbox to your mobile phone. The 24-hour ping takes kilobytes of data.

Nope. It won't stop.

Some analyst a week ago or so suggested MS to sell Bing and Xbox division. I am now fairly certain this is coming true.

It's been mentioned by a lot of people in a lot of different venues.  It was featured prominently in the WSJ, which is the biggest newspaper in the country. It's going to be the story going into launch.  Just wait until it gets closer and every single news organization pulls out their claws and rehashes this point.

yeah, some people don't care about these problems, and others aren't informed or don't understand the implications.  If you're strictly follows Microsoft's message, it doesn't sound all that bad, and there's sure to be a media blitz in the coming months.  And Titanfall looks incredible and it will be advertised as an exclusive.

Honestly, I want it to sell 'OK'.  Third parties might need more than just PC and PS4.  Sort of similar to I'm happy about indies on PS4, even though I'll play these games on PC.  And competition in the console space is nice; Nintendo certainly isn't capable of that.

Imagine the egg on some peoples' faces if the One turns out to be more powerful than the PS4, even without the cloud computing benefits.

Just consider that there might be a good reason MS is playing their cards close to the vest on this one. Still a ways until launch and best to drop the big news closer in time.

Perhaps the most worrying statement to be found in the Xbox One disclaimer, surrounds consumer rights after the mandatory Terms Of Use has been signed upon switching on your new console.

"You must accept Xbox Terms of Use (including Xbox software terms and game license terms), Microsoft Services Agreement, and Xbox One 1-year limited warranty. Some games have additional license terms."

"Terms include binding arbitration with class action waiver to resolve disputes."

While it is likely to only be a defensive maneuver on the part of Microsoft, it does mean that you are restricted from taking out a class action lawsuit against the company should you find dissatisfaction with the services provided.

With Microsoft requiring the console to "phone home" every 24 hours to keep the system active, this would protect the company in the event of the Xbox Live servers going offline - rendering your console inactive - or if a network hacking scandal arose like we saw with the Sony PSN in 2011, where the network was down for an entire month.

Is this something big in the US?

No, binding arbitration is pretty standard stuff.  It's the reason no one could sue carnival when they got stuck on that dead cruise ship for a week.

Yeah, forces you to discuss and figure out a solution out of court.   If everybody who got a launch system had it break and they tried to band together to bring one huge ass lawsuit, they can't because of that.  Every EULA has this though, this isn't anything special for Xbox.

Is this something big in the US?

If anyone cares, many provinces in Canada prohibit mandatory arbitration clauses in consumer agreements. On top of that, a recent Supreme Court decision seems to allow consumers to escape these clauses (seems because it was a Quebec case, the only non-common law province in Canada).

Lee: I wanna ask something about Xbox One region specification.

Sandra: Oh his there Lee. How are you today?
Sandra: And yes, go ahead please.

Lee: Microsoft has posted the distribution region here http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/p...one/disclaimer and i wanna know can i import the console and games from US and play it in Hong Kong

Sandra: Definitely you can Lee. What xbox one require is just an internet connection that is available 24/7. That means that you just have to have an internet connection of your own. Just like the previous consoles, there are countries that they are not officially sold but the console still works there.

 Lee: So,my case is-Xbox One console:US,game:US region,account:US XBOX LIVE account,where i located:Hong Kong
Lee: And Microsoft won't block my ip,right?

Sandra: No not at all since Live and Gold services are both available in Hong Kong. Just like the older consoles Lee, it is not officially sold or distributed to a lot of countries because of the numbers of users that are few but the console still works as long as Live service is available to that country.

Lee: So the Xbox Live service for Xbox One will just like Xbox 360

Sandra: That is right. Only the platform changes but everything pretty much is the same.

 Lee: Ok,thanks for your help
Lee: No more question from me,so bye and have a nice day :)

Sandra: Alright then. See you on Live soon Lee. You take care, okay?

Sandra: Thank you for contacting Xbox Chat Support. My name is Sandra and I will be assisting you today. Please give me a minute to check your issue.
 Sandra: Hi there.
Sandra: Can I have your name please?

 Lee: Oh hi
 Lee: call me Lee

 Sandra: :)

MS says you'll buy the system because you're ignorant.

Which won't happen after the response at E3. Probably the most clear its ever been that gamers don't want to bend over and take it.

In a sense they already are with how every game at E3 fuses single and multiplayer.  An always online connection is the optimal, or only, way to play these games.  That's more the death of traditional single player than DRM, but it could effectively mean what it meant for Diablo 3.

But I do agree with Bob that the mass exodus at E3, in spirit, was a big "back the fuck off" to these policies for the time being.  Whatever happens, this week you had EA saying that online passes weren't worth the damaged reputation they brought.  Yeah, OK, EA.

They would never do that, money is money.Silently sabotaging and pushing Sony, yes.

I expect MS to fully push digital,to me Xbone looks a digital console with discs shoehorned in at the last minute. But to fully move to digital they need tons of digital consumers, only then they can say "fuck you retail".

It will be interesting to see reactions after few more crappy NPDs.

Man, if only you lazy devs spent as much time listening to Nintendo's advice as you do typing up sarcastic remarks.

Nintendo's current used-game strategy for the Wiii U during the last seven months has worked perfectly. Not one copy of an internally-developed Nintendo game released since launch has been sold used. It's a mystery that no one else combating used games has thought of the strategy of making sure new games are never released.

Sony announces their hardware will be more impressive yet they offer it at a lower price point by $100. This in done only after the promotion of a video game depicting a failed, cyrpto-fascist state which rewards you for killing survivalists and gun owners.

This is done at the behest of the Obama administration which in exchange for the subversive anti-gun, pro-secret army message agrees to tank the economy 21 days before the PS4 is released. At that point $399 will be worth $749.99 in June 2013 dollars. Sony is allowed to technically keep the price but collect nearly double value on sales.

Keep up with me. We then have a weakened state open to the idea of personal Obama gay-military. Coincidence that E3 coincides with the NSA reveal?

Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection. Although we’re very excited about Xbox One, we remain dedicated to Xbox 360 now and for years to come. In fact, we are expecting some of the greatest blockbusters of 2013 and 2014 to come out on Xbox 360 such as ‘Grand Theft Auto V,’ ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts,’ ‘Madden NFL 25’ and ‘FIFA 14.’”

Mattrick on price:

"It's a lower number than some of the analysts had forecasted," Mattrick said on Bloomberg TV. "We're over-delivering value against other choices I think consumers can get. Any modern product these days you look at it [and] $499 isn't a ridiculous price point. We're delivering thousands of dollars of value to people, so I think they're going to love it when they use it."

And here we have a case of flawed analysis leading to flawed conclusions. Despite what the usage statistics might say right now and maybe the past few years, people buy these consoles to play games primarily. If that can be had elsewhere for less and with nicer policies too...

Yes, I think people just love to play CoD and will play CoD on whatever console gives them CoD the best.

I was arguing with some dude who said "bros will never buy a Japanese console and will continue their brand loyalty to xbox".

Which just seemed dumb to me, because everyone bought a PS2. I don't really think your average dude gives one fuck about these console wars or anything. They just go to what console seems to be the best and picked up the most traction. This gen here, it was the 360. For a number of reasons I'm sure. It wasn't ridiculously costly for seemingly no reason like the PS3, came out earlier, seemed to have the same and better games than the PS3, and so on.

But that doesn't mean people will automatically pick up on xbox.

Who knows if CoD will be the thing next gen and either way it's coming to PS4 anyway. The PS4's the cheaper console and it's coming out around the same time. Even mainstream media has latched unto the negative aspects of the Xbone and well that starts to get into people's heads, even if wouldn't effect them.

But I mean it can go anyway.

Xbox One is Robb Stark, for fucking people over, expecting everything to be fine, and will pay a big price
PS4 is Jaime Lannister, on the road to redemption and being the best fucking knight in the realm
Vita is Ramsay Snow, for being a demented son of a bitch who tortures people
3ds is Jon Snow, a respectful and honorable who never balks and does what he's told to do
PC gaming is Daenerys Stormborn, who conquers place after place to gain what is "rightfully" hers
ios/android is Arya Stark, who plans to put holes in every fucker who messes with them

Bros will buy COD on whatever console it is easiest to play COD with their friends on. PS4 is $100 easier, so if they want to talk their friends into getting XBox Ones instead they are going to need some good reasons.

If anything they will probably just keep playing on 360 until the new consoles hit critical mass among their social group.

I play online with about 8 other IRL friends who all have 360s and every single one of them has preordered a PS4, for what it's worth. One cancelled a One preorder to do so.

Title: Re: Mattrick: Fortunately we have a product for people without internet
Post by: Himu on June 18, 2013, 01:45:54 AM
Xbox kicks GC's ass in terms of exclusives. Pretty much all GC "exclusives" of note are either a. not exclusive (killer 7, resident evil 4, mgs: twin snakes is a remake of mgs1) or have better versions elsewhere (mario sunshine -> mario galaxy). The main exception is Metroid Prime, maybe Eternal Darkness, and a few others.

Xbox has Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate, Jet Set Radio Future, Otogi 1 and 2, Chronicles of Riddick, Phantom Dust, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Breakdown, Spikeout, Halo 1, Ninja Gaiden Black, and more, combined with the best versions of multi console titles. Most multi console titles during that generation were usually dog shit on the ps2. That's where the Xbox comes in.

I don't take anyone who says the Gamecube was a better system than the Xbox seriously on this matter. I know we all have subjective tastes, but in my experience anyone who says that gc > xbox is either deluded, a weeaboo, or both.

Yeah, it's great.  Next gen seems to have fewer exclusives.

Looking back there were maybe five 360 exclusives that I cared about.  There were at least two or three times that for Xbox games.  To be fair, I bought most multiplatform games on 360, and I'm not counting Bayonetta.
