Title: EDF4 is out next week, some of you all better import it!

Who else is on the EDF train?  US version isn't out until like Jan/Feb 2014.  Language barrier is minimal.  I played EDF2 & 3 co-op with my friend who knew zero Japanese.  You can figure out the weapons by trial and error and weapon stats/selection grid.  Objective is KILL ALL BUGS.

I just ordered my copy.  Since the game has what I've always dreamed of in EDF, aka MASSIVE ONLINE MULTIPLAYER BUG KILLING, some of your peoples better play online with me.  You can do a hell of a lot worse with $80 or so.

/ps3 version since region lock on X360 and all that.

Yeah the time for localizing this is ridiculous. Barely anyone is going to buy no matter when it's out so fucking put it out faster!

I don't know what I'm going to do if the ranger can't use ZEXR turrets. Those were vital for some stages on Inferno.

The achievements in this game look ridiculous. I'm not sure how many stages there are, but I've seen somebody mention ~80. There are achievements for beating all 4 difficulties with all 4 classes, so all together you have to play through the game 16 times - which doesn't include any time you may have to spend farming for good weapons to help with Inferno (depends on how lucky you are with drops). This is assuming that the difficulty achievements don't stack, because they didn't in 2017 and it's probably not even possible to beat Hardest or Inferno with fresh characters anyway.

There are also a bunch of secret achievements, so there's probably some more dumb ones like "collect every weapon with every character". I can see this game taking several hundred hours to complete.

is the EDF before this one (insect force?) any good? i played a bit of the ps2 version (it had jetpack girl so probably EDF2) but i kinda quit in the middle for lack of interess

Play 2017, Insect Armageddon was made by westerners who ran out of time and money so it's not entirely finished supposedly. (Only 15 stages, etc)

It's also not very good at all apparently. 

It's not just made by westerners, but made by a pretty crappy studio IIRC.


2017 is great other than lacking flying girl.

If I weren't importing Gundam Breaker and SRW MKIII this summer, I'd get this.

I'm passing on MKIII since I never played MKII.  I'll pick it up eventually when it's discounted.

Plays like a clunky Gundam musou title with kit bashing. Region-account locked DLC.

SRW 2nd OG and MKIII are the only two games I'm importing this year.

Well technically I have Daisenryaku Perfect preordered, but it's been preordered almost a year now and they keep delaying it every month. Would not be surprised to see it cancelled in favor of yet another Moe Moe game.

Never played any EDF game, what's so good about it? Shooting bugs?

Yeah it sounds like the PS3 version has some problems (crashing to the XMB & long load times). Not sure how it compares to the 360 version.

Well maybe by the time this comes out internationally they'll have fixed this shit and that's why it's not coming until February?Going to have to wait and see and not day one this in the wake of it being a bugfest of the unfortunate kind in addition to the one we were all psyched for.

I got my (360) copy a couple hours ago and have been playing on Hard. Everything seems great so far, but I'm not sure if the game autosaves or if I have to do it manually... :-[

Finally got a chance to play this tonight.  Seems like it's been patched a couple of times already (1.02).

GAME IS AWESOME, AWESOME IS GAME.


I always forget how much I miss the simplicity of life that is EDF until I play it again.  Blow up everything, get loot, all while a million people scream and shout and go EDF! EDF! EDF!  Really dig the new classes.  Seems like the game will have a lot of meat on it between all 4 classes and their weapon loot + difficulty levels.


Framerate is terribad off the start, but that just makes it feel like EDF and I wouldn't want it any other way.  Feels like playing EDF2 all over again :D


I'm so double dipping on the US version to play online with people.  Just 1-2p the game is already a blast.  I can imagine 4p online is probably pretty sweet.  Wish it was 8-16p co-op but 4p is better than nothing!

I've only got a few missions left on Hardest but mission 79 is driving me insane.

It has four level 1 drop ships and four level 2 drop ships, three of which drop spiders, four drop black ants, and one drops bees. The level 1 ship takes 4 shots with the Lysander F to kill (<16,000 health), and the level 2s take 8 shots (<32k). You don't have any allies or civilians around to take any of the aggro, so it's incredibly easy to get overwhelmed by enemies that can currently 1-shot me @ 1500 health.
