Did brand confusion play a part in the Wii U's death?
I mean were talking about consumers that know their Iphone 4 from their Iphone 4S. Or do they really?
-
I'm sure it played a small part and the same goes for the 3DS. The system would still be unsuccessful even with a better name.
-
Hard to gauge the actual effect, especially because it is such an unappealing product in general. I believe it was a bigger problem for the 3DS, because there were so many iterations of the DS before.
-
No, I'm pretty sure the shitty confusing single player only controller and total lack of anything anyone wanted to play had 100% to do with it.
-
i think you'd be hard pressed to find a potential console release land mine which the wii u didn't step on.
it was tap dancing on them.

Given how much Nintendo has aped Apple product style lately, I'm utterly baffled that they didn't go for the obvious name: Wii 2. Hell, maybe go for some whimsy with "Wii Too."
I'm also very surprised that MS seems to be poised to make a somewhat similar fuck up with the new Xbox 360 model looking similar to the Xbox One.

No
The biggest problem with Wii U is that it is a piece of shit sold at a premium price.
-
Nintendo told all the harcore/average gamers to fuck off last gen, and all the casuals they courted have moved on to phone apps.
-
And then they tried to invite the hardcore back by launching a competitor to the 360 and PS3 right when next-gen was finally about to begin.
