What happened to the flavor. WHAT
-
We are talking about the beer, right? If so, I haven't had it in a while, but I'm not sure that I'd concede that it was ever worth a damn.

It probably never had flavor. Kind of like guys who start with Guinness but then move on to Russian Imperial Stouts, your palate has more than likely evolved.
-
every time i get newcastle i always end up thinking "why did i do this AGAIN?!"
ps :heartbeat russian beer

I don't think I've ever had a Russian beer. Russian Imperial Stout is a style.
-
I've had Russian beers. So far nothing special.
But this feels really watered down. The last beer I had was a Lagunitas Lucky 13 amber ale. That was great. I wasn't expecting that much from this, but Newcastle did have flavor. This just feels watery on the tongue with minimal flave.

Lucky 13 is an Imperial Red with 8.65% ABV. Newcastle is a sessionable 4.7% brown ale that is pretty watery on the tongue. Really sounds like you're just finding beers with more flavor.

Hah this is exactly what I was going to mention. New Castle and Guinness aren't bad but when you get a meaty imperial stout (like old rasputin lawd) it just is not the same.

I seriously asked this same question to some friends last week. Utter piss on tap and in bottle now.

:ohhh i did not know this
the russian beers ive had were (relatively) cheap, had high alcohol content, and didnt taste like ass. good enough for me
and looking over a list of imperial stouts i realize it contains most of my favorite beers :lol love that thickness
-
stouts are hit or miss for me. I usually don't like anything that high in alcohol content, and a lot of the stouts I've had are pretty high gravity
Porters, motherfuckers. My favorite beer ever is the Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald, an amazing porter. Yum.
OT, Newcastle fucking sucks.
-
beer snobs add me on untapped
pinguins be drinking cucumber flavoured beer and shit
-
I haven't had Newcastle Brown Ale in ages, but I used to love that stuff.
Guinness ain't bad imho :-[ Or Beamish.
-
Whilst i don't drink any alcohol at all these days i loved Newcy Brown Ale - alas i'm allergic to it and i come out in huge hives.
OT but i spent a ton of time in Newcastle - love the place, really like nowhere else. Saturday match days are absolute insanity

It was an Amarillo-hop pale ale ran through a randall filled with toasted brown rice and cucumber. A little too bitter and dry on the end, but still nice.

I live in a Russian neighborhood in West Hollywood. Some of the shops carry actual beer from Russia. It's not bad. There's this one that's like $2.50 for 32oz at around 9%. I get that for a cheap buzz after a long day.
Generally all I drink these days is 7% or higher. Anything above 9% really does it.
I like Polish lagers for the same reason. Can't drink 9% though, too blitzed. I think Zubr is like 6.4% or something. Been alternating bottles of Asahi and London Pride this summer it's been so hot though.
-
Newcastle doesn't appeal to me quite as much as it used to, I'd say my palette has evolved a good bit over time. But it's still tasty as far as I'm concerned. Fuck snobbery, it's still beer.

Hey man, there is absolutely nothing wrong with an ice cold bottle of Miller High Life on a hot day.
Otherwise, there's too much good local stuff available here in Seattle that I wouldn't waste my time and money on something from the ol' BMC.
-
Yeah I don't think you'd find many beer snobs here or on our Untappd group. Need to get back on there, now that I mention it.
I can always enjoy a nice sweaty Miller Light on a summer day.
-
I used to love Newcastle Brown, but with all the good craft beer in California, there is no reason to buy it.
And Lagunitas' stuff is awesome.
-
Yeah I went and got another bottle of Lucky 13.
Is guinness from the tap still good in the US or is that poopoo, too?

It's the same beer it's always been everywhere in the world.
-
But Guiness doesn't travel well I hear the Irish say every day
-
My irish pals say the American stuff is not the same.
