Don't lie, you'll end up getting the Triumph. Just so you can say you're riding me dirty. :-\
start with a small bike like a 250, or rock a scooter for a few years. nobody springs into the saddle a biker, although my dirt experience helped a fair bit.
also, no joke, ladies FLOCK to a dude on a cool bike. especially a cruiser or a standard. i wish i'd had this hobby in my early 20's. dudes also flock to a lady on a cool bike, but she needs to ride a streetfighter or a supersport. cruiser ladies scream MENOPAUSAL MENACE, just as supersport dudes scream SQUIDDY MANCHILD
the exception is made for a black brother -- take notes, PD -- rockin' an italian supersport. panties ASPLODE.
it's a great hobby. it gives a real sense of freedom and connection to the world, weird as that sounds!and agreed completely. Everything looks different on an MC.
Sheeeit. That's not bad at all. I really only need something to hold some sunglasses, insurance paperwork and work shoes. Right now I stap a duffel bag around my neck for the ride to work. I could take the car, but what's the fun in that??
How far is your commute? Mine is only about ten minutes :lol So I don't really mind. For me it's the opposite, the weekend is when I take my cage out. I have to run all the family errands. But Monday - Friday it's all MC.Sheeeit. That's not bad at all. I really only need something to hold some sunglasses, insurance paperwork and work shoes. get a little tank or tailbag.
i ride to work just about every day unless i need to haul other folks. usually i take the scoot because it can carry two laptops plus gym gear, and it's less painful in stop-and-go, but on a nice day with weak traffic, or when i have mostly meetings, i bust out the bike. weekends it's all motorcycle, all the time.
The distancesurely there is a truck stop with a shower room somewhere at the halfway point?
the wife doesn't like it when i steal her scoot, but omg it's like a 13 hp bicycle and screams HOOLIGANISM. i'm getting a honda grom monkeybike in mid-august so i can get this need to misbehave outta my system:rofl
Yeah it's a chinese scooter.
That ducati is teh sexy. Why would she murder you?? She would love the way you look on it :-*
i like the camaraderie of motorbiking. dudes and ladies who ride will always chat you up, and are often game to join you in riding for awhile. squids are annoying, but the older folks and younger nonsquids are usually a fun albeit boozy crowd. don't drink and ride!Maybe they're just more friendly in your area. :( I don't ever have anyone ride up with me. So many squids and rubs in my area. The older guys will give you a wave at least and some will chat you up. I like that coming from the Corvette world (they do the same).
I'm glad you're coming back to 2 wheels, Biz! American car drivers need to be educated on motorcycles and bikes IMO. A lot of them take the stereotypes off TV and apply it to all riders. Most also don't understand the difference between the two. They cut you off and slam on their brakes without thinking about how much more difficult and dangerous it is on a bike. A lot of my family changed the way they drive around motorcycles and the way they see them after I got mine.

My step father commutes on a bike and had a jackass pull out in front of him last week....brakes locked up and went sliding something like 200 feet. He was fine except for a bunch of bruises and major road rash. The fuck who cut him off just kept going like nothing even happened.
riding's dangerous. if my head isn't in it, i don't get on the bike and i take the cage instead.this. You have to focus on the ride. Things can still happen no matter how careful you're being, but lots of situations can be prevented or mitigated to some extent. Not saying anything about your dad halgorithmic. So many dumb drivers out there.
Halgo, was your stepdad wearing a jacket/gloves?
just did two hours straight hard riding on the zook in east snohomish county. lotsa twisties, kept it 15ish over. my ass hurts like the first time in a mupepe/tauntaun double feature. wasn't exactly draggin' knees, but i got my ass off the seat into a few decent leans.dat lean :( Mine scrapes the footpegs at 29/30 degrees. Oh well.
i definitely need another track day. :-( man, if you want your cornering skills and shift tactics to massively level up, fork out the dough for a track day!
hm, thailand gets the new ruckus, called the zoomer-x -- it's 110cc
hell yes. looks ace.I say if the OL is good with it and you want it, why the fudge not? Never hurts to add a little diversity to the stable.
in more feggity news, i'm really missing owning a scooter after i kicked the piaggio out for the ctx. i got a line on a dirt cheap 2013 genuine blur 220i. the old ady seems okay with it. what say ye?
Niiiiice. I've got a fund setup for a Road King. 2014 is the year baby!
that helmet is nice. i do enough group rides these days i need an intercom setup, plus music.Dear sweet baby jesus!!! Gorgeous!
i am getting a cruiser! sold the vespa and a ton of aftermarket parts and gear plus computer hardware and have ALMOST enough budget for this:

1700cc triumph thunderbird storm. when i get it i will ride to canada, pick up arvie, and rape him in a taco bell parking lot.
Dear sweet jesus that's gorgeous
Is that the exact bike you're getting? That in matte black would be :noah
victory makes a good bike, as does indian. (both are polaris.) both have much smoother, torquier engines. both the victory cross country and the vision are great, but you might not like crazy hugo gernsbaack stylin' of the vision. for a more standard "classic" cruiser look, the indian chieftain is nice.I really don't like most fairings so that's what turns me off on the Chieftain. An Indian Chief Vintage looks great. I plan on test riding one soon. Any experience with it?
for metrics, i prefer the suzuki boulevard M90 (or C90, which is more traditional touring kit). it's torquey, bulletproof, and has classic cruiser looks. around here, if it's not an h-d, it's probably one of the 90ci boulevards. (i like the blacked out b.o.s.s. models.) if you REALLY want sick power, the m109 is absurd as hell and has the fattest back tire i think i've seen on any bike, even a v-rod. the yamaha star stratoliner s and roadliner s (1900cc, i think?) are popular and again, like most metrics, reliable and indestructable.I gotta say that M90 looks sexy as fuck and the price :o The fairing is small enough not to bother me. The C90 is more my style though. I love the minimal look of the non touring (Road King being the exception) HD bikes. The classic cruiser look is what gets me wet. The M109 doesn't really grab me the same way. I'll test ride the C90 and M90 and see how that goes.
the big honda -- the vtx1800 -- is really boring. i rode a vtx1300 and i almost fell asleep. give me a harley any day over THAT. the valkyrie is awesome as an alternate cruiser, but there's no touring kit for it -- that's the niche for the goldwing f6b. (goldwings are AMAZING as long haulers and much easier to throw around than a big h-d, and they're significantly quicker to boot. on the other hand, they're goldwings.)Yeah I've ridden a few Honda's and spoken to their owners and the consensus is basically :zzz And Goldwings do nothing for me aesthetically
never tried or seen the big kawi vulcan nomad (1700? cc). i like kawi a ton -- they're called the "h-d of japan" because they focus less on electronics and more on raw experience and an almost agricultural feel to their engines -- so it might be good? would be interested in checking the nomad out myself at some point.Jesus Christ. Okay. This is basically what I'm looking for. It's aesthetically and feature-wise what I want out of the Road King. Test ride here I fucking come.
hm, triumph has the thunderbird (which i love, the parallel twin is just different enough for me to be interested) and the terrifying 2300cc rocket iii, which murders lesser men. (seriously, it will haul with throttle at stop while you eke the clutch out, there's THAT MUCH TORQUE fighting to get out.) the little triumphs like the speedmaster/america compete with the sportster, so they're a no-go for you.Yeah I took a look around the Triumph website and dealer but I just really don't care for the styling. The chassis of their cruisers just look awful to me. Feature and price wise they are fucking great though.
i guess of all of them, i'd go with a C90 in full touring kit or the yammy stratoliner s. both will come in right under 20K when all is said and done, and both will spank any larger displacement non-cvo h-d 108ci bike. if the victory bikes looked less crazy retro-future, i'd consider them. (still considering a victory gunner, but not as a touring bike.)So basically out of these I am going to check out the Suzukis and the Kawasaki Vulcan. Both seem like my style and a great value.
:drool :drool You gotta let me ride yer hog when we meet up
Two questions: can we post about scooters in here and what's the best way to scope out a place for repair that's excellent and not a wallet gouger?Hell yeah you can. Life is better on two wheels no matter what it is. Cruncheon has experience with scoots too.

Regarding dealers most brand forums (like Harley forums, Yamaha forums, etc) have threads about dealers rating their experiences. Search those forums and look for your nearby dealers. Or just start a thread and see who knows a good ahop/dealer in your area.
Go for the Polaris Slingshot or Can Am Spyder. My next "car" is going to be a slingshot... After I buy my next motorcycle.
let's go to sturgis and get tore upcan't you just go to Pony on cap hill to do that? :doge
I'm reading the adventure bike forums and they are making fun of my Scrambler :'-(:brofist
