Capcom Announces Strider for PS4 and Xbox One
Today, at the World of Capcom panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Capcom Senior Producer Andrew Szymanski announced an all new Strider developed by Double Helix for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC!
Originally released in 1989, Strider remains one of Capcoms most enduring franchises. The game tells the story of Hiryu, the youngest ever Super A ranked agent of an elite corps known as the Striders. Strider Hiryu receives orders to assassinate Grandmaster Meio, supreme dictator of Earth, who has plunged humanity into a dystopian dark age.
Since the original release, Strider Hiryu has battled through multiple sequels, and appears as a playable character in Capcoms Marvel vs. Capcom series of fighting games, most recently Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, released in 2011. Strider is a consistent fan favorite for Capcom, always ranked at the top of fan polls as a character in high demand to return in his own game.
Part of Striders enduring appeal has been blazing fast gameplay, married with deep environment traversal options. For the new game, Double Helix and our partner team in Osaka, Japan, concentrated on an ultra-responsive control system, with incredibly satisfying combat options in every traversal contextstanding, running, wall climbing, hanging, aerial and more.
New to the franchise is the massive interconnected world of Kazakh City which players can explore in any direction they choose. The traditional level structure has been replaced with a retraceable world and a deep ability upgrade system which enables Hiryu to build more power and abilities to penetrate ever deeper into the dystopian adventure.
Double Helix is thrilled to be working with some of the original Strider creative leaders from Capcoms Osaka production offices to bring another fan favorite franchise back to life!

I really wish they would stop getting outsourced work from JP companies.
I'm all for DH making some original games to show they have talent in game design. Do that first before you fuck up more franchises I actually like!
-
Not all studios can make their own game designs and ideas, Bebps.
-
Visually, I like what I'm seeing! A metroidvania twist could be really awesome as well
-
Strider 2 should be the template to operate from. "Metroidvania", "Shadow Complex" ruins hype. Double Helix poops on the ruins.
Let the record show I was a day0 pessimist.
PS: whatever they are doing with his scarf makes it look terrible.

I don't have a problem with outsourcing these franchises to other devs and there are success stories out there. And while it's kinda mean to knock an entire company, double helix hasn't even made a decent game. So yeah, maybe this is the first good game they make. Like optimism and junk... :-\
It doesn't look bad
edit: this and killer instincts have tons of sparks
-
Optimism and junk is good!
Again, videos inclusive - it looks pretty good to me! With the right oversight there's no reason double helix can't make a great title... wasn't this rumoured ages ago too? With a 2014 release, hopefully its had the time / polish it deserves.
Even if this is Bionic Commando Rearmed-like in competency, I'd be pretty satisfied just to have Strider back. It certainly looks faithful visually.

Looking at Double Helix's past history:
Silent Hill Homecoming
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Front Mission Evolved
MX vs. ATV Reflex
Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters
Battleship
Killer Instinct
Strider
Harker
Sounds like it will be great! (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc130/esmith1985/shepicide_zpsa7905c1a.gif)

it's the truth, sensei.

Enjoy your double helix.

I thank you for being the no-punches-held asshole that I can't be because I still worry about burning certain bridges.
-
Doesn't look that bad, but Double Helix makes me very very reserved...
-
hey a door with turrets that requires an item to get through. hey the item is 3 seconds away from the door down a single corridor. totes metroidvania guys :derp

This could be my favorite Metroidvania since Ocarina of Time!
-
I dunno. This looks bad. But then what do I know? I'm up for a surprise.

Unambitious project with well-loved name and character attached. Will probably make back its budget, score 7s and 8s, and gain some vocal fans from the low-expectations crowd and people who liked the NES game.
The Metroidvania template has to be the easiest path to success for 2D/2.5D games these days. You don't have to develop interesting mechanics or level design or spend money putting together set pieces. You just give people a place to explore and ways to make their numbers go up and you have a moderate success on your hands.
-
Looks okay, and as someone who doesn't really give a shit about Strider making it a Metroidvania is a good first step towards me caring. However, Double Helix means there's approximately a 99% probability it sucks, so whatever.
-
He doesn't look anything like Viggo Mortensen.

I don't see how anyone can argue with that, based on Double Helix's track record. Maybe Capcom will keep them on a tight leash and it will turn out well. I'm certainly interested, but skeptical about it. Pretty much the same thing with Killer Instinct....just don't have much faith in this developer. But we'll see how the final games turn out.

Haha, I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm so sick of this shit, reviving a dead series with some 3rd-rate developer. Everyone still goes gaga for Metrovania too for some reason, Kickstarter is full of them.

looks pretty good to me!

Watched the gameplay video. Looks boring and baby easy.

Had no idea Double Helix was doing KI as well. What, is Rare now too gutted to even do that themselves?
-
They have Ken Lobb with them at least. Who do they have here? The current Capcom?
-
Never mind that...
Some people on GAF are saying this is a $60 game? What?
