So currently I'm working as a B2B sales rep. The product I sell is pretty cool and I really like the industry and the people I work with.
I was supposed to work in inside sales, but I'm currently doing outbound mostly. I never got a raise when I moved to the sales position, it is what you call a lateral promotion. This makes me pretty unmotivated
Now there is this other company that headhunted me to join them. The position is business development (which basically means creating leads for the sales team by calling prospects). The salary is 25% higher, better benefits etc. Also this company will looks great on my cv.
So it all seems like a no brainer BUT I do get less holidays (5 days less) and it's a tough outbound climate. I will also be on 6 months probation before the contract is permanent. I'm really not sure if I can hack it, the rewards would be great and there is loads of room for growth, but I'm engaged and thinking of having a family etc. so am kind of anxious trying something like this.

This is when you make a move like that no? Before you have kids.

I think it's frowned upon if you take any days off in those probation periods so if you're planning to get married/go on a honeymoon in that period, it's something to consider.

More pay usually means higher risk.
Maybe ask people who have similar positions to the one being offered to see how stressful it is. Not everyone is cut out to be a Managing Director and if you can carve out a comfortable life with your soon to be wife, that is fine as well. In fact, that is the majority of people.

This seems like something you want to do and you are just looking for some encouragement, so I say go for it.

A great counter offer from my current job might make things easier, but im not sure it will happen.
Texp: i kind of agree on that, nothing wrong with comfort!
Yeti: my fiancee thinks its a great chance too, but youre right i do seem need a lil extra push

If you're doing a good job and the company is worth staying with they will usually try to keep you in those types of situations. You'll know what they really think of you when you bring up other prospects.
