This game destroys every Grand Theft Auto title; past, present, and future. Why GTA 5 is even allowed to exist is a puzzle that strains the limits of human understanding.

I don't want to piss in anyone's cheerios, but as much as I love Saints Row, after playing multiplayer in Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3, I'm guessing GTA V will have multiplayer which destroys Saints Row 4's.

The multiplayer in SR2, after it was fixed, was the best mischief you could get into anywhere, but it was a co-op, 2-saints against the world gameplay. SR3's was also good (and it worked from launch, which was a plus). It is a fantastic time, but there's not much in the competitive play department -- it's cooperative mayhem.

If you want to get into competitive gameplay, I don't think Saints will deliver, and we'll be in GTA for that.

Which makes me wonder, are there any Boritos who are convinced they won't even buy GTA V?

Saint's dropped the competitive stuff and focused on co-op.  That's fine with me.  SR2, SR3, and Crackdown are the best sandbox games I've ever played.   In Rockstar games I always would just get bored and end up fucking around trying to survive with the highest wanted level possible.  And then the games would get sold off.

Yup- I don't care about GTAV at all.  I don't really go for Rockstar games.  They have amazing presentation and....that's it.

I played MP in GTAIV once, but it was just me and a couple other guys running around and crashing into stuff for a while.

I did some co-op in GTA4.  The co-op stuff with friends was fun.  The competitive stuff was garbage.  Saints Row 2's competitive multi was also crap.

No interest in GTA V. Maybe down the road for $20 if I hear it's not shit. R* will get $60 from me day one for Bully II if they ever fucking make it.

Yeah, you're right. My argument is kind of bullshit. Though the single-player design of SR and GTA are similar, the multi has an different goal.

And don't get me wrong, I like co-op gameplay. Sho Nuff and I played a session in Crackdown which blew my mind. I think it was my first time playing co-op, and the whole city was a big playground. Amazing.

I just was so utterly hooked on RDR, and MP3 looks like it may similarly pull me in once I go back to it. I am really looking forward to multi in GTA V, since that's more appealing to me.

actually interested in gta5 more right now, might change later but sr4 really does look similar to the third, and i can imagine rockstar making some fun missions based on the three diff characters

Well, MP3 is easier to describe, as it's simpler: The MP3 single-player game is all about shoot-dodging. The multi- is also based on that core, but with various ways to customize your character, depending on the mission type and your desired play style. You can be a grunt, a sniper, a silent assassin, all with purchased items, which are limited by your in-game rank and the purchases you've made. RDR is a weird beast. It's also similar to the single-player game, but there is SO MUCH TO DO in RDR single- that it's amazing they managed to convert much of it to a balanced multiplayer experience. There's no player customization other than your displayed Title and which avatar you choose, i.e. there are no skill or accuracy enhancing benefits. So everyone's on the same footing. You can do regular FFA and Team Deathmatch, or even go in a co-op mission with the various goals there. There're also capture the flag, progressive territory grab, and a snatch the gold modes, which are a blast, but nothing new. Later additions included things in Free Roam, such as holding onto a small patch of real estate, which alerts everyone in the server that you're challenging all comers. Those are exciting. You can also launch any of the game types from within a Free Roam. That's nice. Um, what else? Horse racing tournaments, all the single-player gambling modes are available as well... And basically all of the Challenges from SP also make an appearance in multiplayer, which is kind of a drag for the hunting and naturalist stuff.

The downside is, if your Free Roam server is unpopulated, it really makes the game's parameters glaringly apparent. The NPCs are few and far between, the realm feels dead without them.

I dunno if I agree with that. SR3 was alright but I feel it isn't on the level of GTA2 or GTA3/VC/SA.

Now "Present" GTA? Yeah, 4 sucked and Saints Row filled the "immature sandbox" market Rockstar left. "Future" GTA? Remains to be seen but if Rockstar continues down the path they laid with 4? You'd be right.

I'd argue that Chinatown Wars may be alright for present GTA-Rockstar, but I haven't completed it. I should probably get on that.

I haven't played Lost and Damned or the Ballad of Gay Tony, which apparently changes peoples opinions of GTA4 around. But if they have as much "hey, cousin, wanna see big American titties bowling?" No thanks.

GTA4's multiplayer is fine... when you have people working on objectives/races/etc. Sandbox mode is just a joke. No point in playing it since everyone is out to kill everyone instead of doing missions and stuff.

Basically plays like Max Payne 3's singleplayer, but with a few exceptions. IIRC Bullet Time is still in the multiplayer but I forget how it works.

From a gameplay standpoint, I don't see why not. From a story standpoint, I especially don't see why not. Both franchises have their own goals and they're both good at those goals I think. SR1 was easily better than GTAIV. I was far more impressed with that game as my first next gen sandbox game than GTAIV. SR2 is easily on par with Vice City, and I think it's better than San Andreas, if only due to co-op and mission replay, though it's lacking the large continuous world and countryside and detail that made GTASA so great. SA is still my king but I'd easily take SR2 as a second answer. SR3, again, is better than GTAIV, but I can't objectively say it's better than say, Vice City or especially San Andreas, except in terms of the obvious like shooting.

I've been working on finishing all the activities, and I finally hit Lv. 50 yesterday. Bought all the no-damage/no-reload/infinite ammo perks, cuz I just wanna tear up the world. Volition knows why people play these kind of games. :rock
