Ipswich off to a flyer! Played two, lost two.

In truth , the 2-1 against Reading sounded like we were unfortunate and the team that went out away to Stevenage saw 6 changes. I think the Capital cup is an unwelcome distraction for a team like ipswich that needs to solidify our mid-table mediocrity

Also - as i've lost about 7kg since the start of the year this is the first time i've felt "comfy" ordering a -small- English football top - the medium ones were a smidgen big when i was a bit more rotund anyways, but the new one is skin tight so yeah - thank christ i've shed some beef. Can't wait to give it a run out :D

I'm not even sure I have NBC Sports. My problem with EPL and to a lesser extent MLS, is that I can never watch games because they're never on tv. I have watched all of 3 games of my Dynamo play on local my television station. That's how many games they've SHOWN.

The QPR ones are positively tiny. A medium is super tight on me and only barely goes past my belly button, and I wear a 38/48 or a medium generally. Fuck Lotto, can't wait until their contract is up at the end of the season. Good win for you lot yesterday.

Fucking Ajax lost cause ref gave a red card to van Rijn for nothing when they were up 2-1. Oh well.

I guess living in the US it doesn't matter really  :-[

Uhm what? I'm always half Dutch.

Just that you guys like to put a polack sticker on me doesn't mean much to me. I've spent more time in the Netherlands then any other place.

I know all of this multi nationality european stuff is confusing to people from ohio.

Arsenal fans - the problem is that Wenger is shite in the transfer market - he's had a little play with getting in Rooney and Suarez but he's just poor at attracting big names to the club. I like Wenger as a manager but he's shockingly one dimensional in the transfer market.

On the result itself - Villa were playing some nice football at the end of last season and they have a young team at their core and a good manager at the helm. In stark contrast to Wenger, Lambert managed to pursuade their star Benteke to stay. Still - early results don't define a season.

Ipswich v QPR - sounds like we were well beaten in terms of football but we fell asleep in the dying seconds to give away the point we'd nearly earned. Not too paniced and i think Mick is realistic in targeting 6th place - i think we'll put most teams away at home, and we're going to be much harder to beat away than the last few years where we were on the end of 7-1, 6-0 style drubbings. Things are brighter and i at least don't expect to be in a relegation dogfight.

My local team Carlisle United are filling the role of Massive Disappointment this year - even though they beat Blackburn in the cup (looool) they have , league wise, played 3 and lost 3 - but have managed to concede 12 goals in those games. That's pretty damned worrying.

It's hard not to blame Wenger a bit for Arsenals position, that said he has managed to get them into the CL more often then not with limited funds compared to other big teams.

Ajax beat Feyenoord today :rock

that said he has managed to get them into the CL more often then not with limited funds compared to other big teams.

he's had funds for the last two seasons and in the run up to this season he was given a reported 85 million to spend.

And what has he done with it? brought in Sanogo - which admittedly is a good move if one that needs time to bake. He needs class players and hasn't bothered to bring in anyone - just a list of players they were trying to sign but failed. Failed to land Gustavo too - nice work and just how they managed to sabotage the Higuain deal is beyond me. How did he manage to screw that one up?!

This quote, if i was an arsenal fan, would make my blood boil :

"People say: 'Buy players, buy players, buy players … ' But who?"

Are you kidding me? Really???

Fellaini, Baines, Ashley Williams, Michu, Gamez, Dzeko, Jovetic, Ljajic, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Remy, Muniain, etc...

If Arsenal fail to land Rooney or Suarez then Wenger needs taken round the back of the shed and booted up the arse.

He's coming off as a miserly scrooge who, even when given cash, simply can't find any players to spend it on. That's negligent.

Think you were a tad unlucky - couldn't make it yesterday but was listening to the comms and it sounds like they defended well. Barton played a blinder in midfield by all accounts and combined with Henry I think it was tough for them to create much.

gustavo is reportedly on 130k/week at wolfsburg, wenger ain't making him the highest paid player at arsenal. i'm sure it's their wage structure that's holding him back a fair bit and why higuian probably didn't happen and why suarez/rooney won't happen and he'll continue to get random players out of the french league

Call methodis what you want but ontop of being a vastly improved poster he knows what he's talking about regarding football - save possibly his trolling of Ajax which, whilst i'm on board, does tend to be a bit OTT

Thanks DCharlie :)

If you need to follow a team in the Premiere League follow a team like Everton who has a good manager or something. That way if you actually accomplish something of note (Champions League Qualifying) it means alot more.

Agreed with Methodis - though Arsenal .... strangely.... still fall into that "well, if they actually win something..." category!

But yeah - pick a team that's outside the top 6 and you're in for fun either way : Relegation dogfight, elation of possibly going on a cup run in either cup, might sneak euro place?

Everton - i would have said no because they lacked firepower to be entertaining but Lukaku makes them an interesting prospect.

I'm conflicted on Newcastle - i feel sorry for Pardew as the top of the club is ran by a set of clowns, but they can be at least fun to watch and, as i spent years in Newcastle, i have an attachment there.

Villa probably a good one too - a young squad coming together under a decent manager.

Support West Ham also. Nothing better than some Big Sam english football. Once Big Andy returns they'll be Europa league contenders imho.

Everton actually did pretty good business. Barry's still class, McCarthy's an excellent young player and getting Lukaku is a coup.

I'd rather have a young and hungry Lukaku on my team right now than Torres.

happy for the arsenal bros, ozil is one of my favourite players currently playing and is an amazing talent. if chamberlain gets as good as everyone hopes then an attack of chamberlain and cazorla on the wings, ozil in the middle and some combination of ramsey/wilshere/arteta behind could be raping defences all over europe

This fucking game against Napoli, this gif says it all

Although I have to admit we got lucky with the own goal, might prove to be important when it comes to direct comparisons...

The prospect of a winter World Cup in 2022 took a step forward after European football chiefs agreed a summer event could not be played in Qatar.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24160879

What a clusterfuck Qatar World Cup could potentially be.

FIFA wants to have a "historic" moment by having the first World Cup in the Middle East. I get that. But honestly when you have the UAE right there(still bad, but much better choice) why the fuck would you go with Qatar? Money. Yep, money.

lol FIFA don't give a fuck where the World Cup is. All they care about is lining their pockets. The UAE have never bid, and I don't really get why it would be much better than Qatar (the biggest problem is the climate anyway)

conflicted on all this - I personally like it when events like the World Cup do something out of the norm so a Winter world cup? Yeah - bring it on, i'm personally more a club football fan regardless of going to international events previously.

The big issues i have with this whole affair stem from Blatter and his "going to Qatar? Then don't be gay there" stance - so much for inclusion.

And then there is Platini - one of the greatest players to grace the game - who , rightly, fingerwagged England telling them they don't run world football, "it's the peoples game". But the absolute hilarity of the reaction to a Qatar winter world cup possibly being in Jan? UEFA : BU BU BU THAT WOULD AFFECT THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ! NO YOU CANT! lol. Yeah, England don't run world football - it's the peoples game... the people at UEFA and FIFA. Don't lecture people if you can't stick to your own script.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be held in the Middle East for any reason other than if the climate means they have to reschedule and disrupt the domestic leagues I don't think it's viable. Australia would have made sense.

The temperatures in Qatar in June-Jul are no hotter than there were for the World cup in the USA a decade ago. Just move the world cup to those months and they'd be fucking fine.

On the one hand world cup in winter would kinda suck, on the other hand in winter there is less good stuff to do so I could probably get to watch more games.

Also love how Blatter now tries to put the blame for Qatar on some governments that want to do business with qatar like there was nothing going on directly between Fifa and Qatar (like it's the case with probably every world cup in the last 20 years).

Qatar is already a disaster for one of the largest sponsors of the World Cup, AB-Inbev. Sorry, you can't sell your product.

Maybe we're all freaking out over nothing, maybe it will be fine, but I think it's gonna be a huge mess.

Oh well, at least they won't cut off a dude's head and put it on a pike like Brazil. Hopefully.

As someone who's been to Qatar in the summer I must respectfully disagree. Qatar is all hot, only parts of the U.S. have a similar climate.

Quote from: weatherspark.com
The month of June is characterized by essentially constant daily high temperatures, with daily highs around 105°F throughout the month, exceeding 112°F or dropping below 98°F only one day in ten.

The month of July is characterized by essentially constant daily high temperatures, with daily highs around 106°F throughout the month, exceeding 112°F or dropping below 99°F only one day in ten.

Sure, your average world-class athlete is going to be able to bear it. But your average fan? Let's just imagine the dead old people being carted out of the stadiums.

Three summers ago I played in a military soccer league in Kuwait (runners-up what what) and it was rough. I'm not in bad shape but my first two or three weeks any more than 5 minutes of continuous play had me gasping for breath. And we weren't playing noon matches—they were all around 6pm.

I think Qatar was an all-around bad idea and now that they've made the decision it's going one lose/lose choice after another from here on out. Move the games to the winter and now the entire professional schedule is messed up for that year, plus as Kosma said, Europeans can't watch the games in beergartens anymore. The ripples will keep on continuing. This is why Western powers shouldn't get entangled in the Middle East. It always seems like a really novel idea at first, then you keep doubling down to try and save your mistake from being a catastrophe, and eventually you just cut your losses and vow, "never again".

I don't know, radio 606 said the temperatures are no hotter than Atlanta was for the 98 world cup

Man Utd fans : "City win was like opening an xmas present and finding nothing in the box - they beat the best team in Europe away - but so what? they needed to win 4-2 for it to mean anything"

to this i say - i'd worry about beating Stoke and teams of that ilk first before worrying about anything else. Because usually that'd be "3 easy points" and now it's "errr - don't fancy that!" - welcome to Liverpool Syndrome. The rest of football has caught up and overtaken - no one fears United any more and i suspect there'll be a lot more "shock results" in the next few seasons before United settle down to rebuilding. 7 pts off Champions league, 12 (more?) off 1st? Seasons over, hope for a good run in the cups chumps.

did you guys catch the boxing day games? pretty solid day. wayne rooney second footballer to score 150 points at one club, and it was a doozy too. arsenal's offense was a mixed bag in the first half, but they came back with vengeance in their matches second half. Didn't catch the man city and liverpool game. :( How was it?

Anyways, the more I watch, the more I like Man City. I think I may start rooting for them.
