I think it looks good, but anyone expecting Killer 7 will probably be disappointed from what it sounds.
-
I hope it bombs and Grasshopper goes out of business and Suda 51 has to become a jobber for New Japan.
-
Grasshopper have never made a shit game, why all the FUD
-
Game initially revealed as spirtual successor to Killer 7, later gameplay shows it is anything but. Just another vapid slasher from Grasshopper, how many of those have they done since Samurai Champloo and Blood +? Aside from SOTD, just about every single game done by them since has been one.
-
I'm hoping for some quirky puzzles and metaphysical shit :(

I'm a bit torn on this one cause I like Grasshopper's output but the idea of masked lucha suda is p awesome.

I love GHM vapid slashers that are all style and little to no substance. :rock

It looks like No More Heroes and Shadows Of The Damned combined or something. It's already a mega sales-bomb in Japan and I suspect that will be the case everywhere else. Import impressions are mixed. Sounds like the kind of game to wait to hit bargain bin prices, which should be pretty quick.
Suda should have made another Lollipop Chainsaw.
Meanwhile, if you want crazy-ass action, Saint's Row IV comes out a week before this.
-
Bork every latter day Suda game is bargain bin fodder. He makes stuff that is good dumb fun for a week or two that only suckers cough up $60 for. I got Lollipop Chainsaw for sub $20 and had a good enough time with it. Bought No More Heroes 2 when it was super new and regretted it cause while it was a decent game it's a bit short for that asking price. Never again.
-
NMH2 isn't a Suda game.
I liked Lollipop Chainsaw a lot. It was basically "Zombie Killer Musou" and had some fun stuff added like the arcade stage, although I didn't bother replaying it since Max Anarchy came out shortly after and kicked its ass all over the place. Couldn't play Killer 7. Didn't care much for NMH in the end. And I guess that's about it.
-
Ah right, he just had exec producer or some other meaningless credit stamped on it didn't he? his stuff's still on the short side for me to justify throwing $60 at it. :P
-
Yea I got it :hyper

:fbm

I'll probably pick it up when it dips under $20. So sometime next week then.

My copy is out for delivery, can't wait.
-
Game is pretty fun if not nonsensical.
-
The Limited Edition box is really nice, and the manual is an actual manual in full-color.
Nice job with the packaging, XSEED.
-
I was a bit short this week but I have put aside a copy of the LE at the game store.
-
I haven't played the game yet, trying to finish up Xillia first, but the box is neato.

This was a very weird game but I liked it alot. I found the guns had a lot more use towards the end of the game, so I suggest doing the gigolo missions. The charge gun is awesome. Liked that you're encouraged to play well since that's the best way to increase your stats.
I tried a few missions on Very Hard, the enemies become crazy aggressive you have to parry and dodge non stop, take much longer to kill, grabs from behind(something which was rare for me in normal). The increase health for the enemies ruins it for me because they take too long to die, plus it gets a bit cluttered(they start to huddle up against you)/camera angles so I found it harder to parry because I couldn't see from when or where.
And with anyone with eyes can see the game looks great. The best thing about the game.
-
So I just finished the game and well....
I don't know. It's not a bad game. The combat is pretty simple 1 button combat, but it's actually quite fun. It's nothing quite original, but the combination of just guard and having to keep you're combo up to actually get most of the bonus like your much needed health keep the combat pretty fun and are a good motivation to play well. It's simple, but it dosen't feel mindless because well the game gives you many reasons to pay attention and well enemies don;t just stand around, so you do have to stay on your toes.
But I don't think the rest of the game holds up in other areas. The levels are pretty boring. There's nothing quite interesting outside of the combat. And some enemies such as those who shoot can be kind of annoying.
But the game's look is fantastic. Grasshopper really does shine in the art and style department and while it's a shallow reason to like their games, they just look cool to me.
As for the story. I have no idea what it was about. I read(rather half-read) I guess an essay about it and it presents some relatively good ideas. If the story was less obtuse about these ideas I'd be happy. Just because something has some deeper elements to it's story or good themes hidden under tons of crap dosen't actually make it good. That's a shame to, because well it does have an interesting set-up. Basically it's an assassin police procedural with crazy shit. It just never does anything. The character's are uninteresting, which was never a problem with previous GH games. And the plot is just so random and/or obtuse that it's hard to enjoy.
Hopefully someone much better at this comes along and does some deep anlyzation of whatever was going on in this game.
As for the gigloo missions. Sadly this seemed to be the main striking point against the game in reviews. I think this is unfair. They aren't fun to play, but they are harmless. They are incredibly tong and cheek portions playing up the simple joke of men staring at women's naughty bits in conversations. Thats it. There's nothing really obscene here and you know what I ignored most of them(I did maybe 2) and got through the game on normal just fine.
I don't know. I really don't know what to think about this game. But I bet this game is going to be looked back upon better then it was on release.

Just picked up my copy :rejoice
The LE swag is awesome, just cutting out the little paper guy and listening to the soundtrack CD. The OST is fuckin sweet so far
-
Just played through the first few chapters, this game is SLICK.
Seems like a solid product so far, better art, graphics and gameplay than Bioshock Infinite, less jank too. :piss westaboos :piss2

This looks like it's basically NMH3, which means I'm down for like $20 or so in a few months.
-
Yeah it's real similar to NMH gameplay wise.
-
is this ten bucks yet

is this ten bucks yet
It sold less than 15K according to NPD so if it isn't already, it won't be long yet.
-
I bet you'll see a glut of them on a Gamefly sale soon enough.
Really good game, though. I'm having fun with it.
