This is probably the most annoying feature in any game I've ever played, lol.

I don't even know what you're talking about but it sounds like the mewlings of some weaksauce casual gamer who can't even handle Nintendo babby games anymore.

LOL this is like the easiest Zelda ever. Dying literally has no consequences. At least in other games it kinda set you back a bit.

Platforming is pretty terrible though, so I can see why they made sure that there's no downside to dying.

Back before Sony invented Real-Time Weapon Change™. :'(

This is also #2 on my most annoying LA things.

Why is the glove an equipable item and not like, a status buff (like in the far-superior Link to the Past?) Is there a reason for making it more obtuse? Is there any situation you DON'T want it equipped? Same for the sword.

I dunno, I think this game is pretty bad. It's got some cool ideas, but the execution is all kinds of fucked up. Not to mention the ridiculous limitations of the GBC hardware.

Never really understood the hype for this one tbh.

There's no reason to ever play LA when the Oracle games exist. Unless you're some nostalgia fetishist that is incapable of objectivity.

Its so obvious Andrex didn't grow up in the 90's

yeah i can still enjoy the game because omg childhood memories but goddamn those hardware limitations. sad thing is that it was one of the first game boy games i thought was almost "console-quality" but it came out four whole years after the game boy was released. handheld gaming was a struggle back then.

Can't call it the easiest Zelda, you could actually bork your game if you used keys wrong in one of the dungeons if I remember right.

Loved this game but I was in second grade or something.

B could be the swappable item, A should always be sword, and the glove should be a passive buff. I don't see why having less buttons would make it *this* obtuse.

Never finished this game thanks to this.

Going a little off topic but still on the subject of old portable games, HOW CAN ANYONE PLAY POKEMON WITHOUT AN EMULATOR? I'm playing firered now and I can't even imagine how it would be like to play this thing without the accelerator, everything is soooooo slow!

Which button picks up the rocks in that scenario?

A, if you're right in front of a rock.

And how do you dash jump or bomb arrow?

B.

B.

Don't think you're understanding. Those two actions require both buttons. Especially later in the game you don't always want the sword so locking one of the two buttons to it would have a been a huge design flaw.
This thread reads like you played a quarter of the game and threw up your hands in your new gamer privilege.

What motivated me to make this thread was realizing that I was going to see that fucking message throughout the entire rest of the game. The weapon switching is a little annoying but whatevs, it's GameBoy. But the glove shouldn't be a usable item IMO. Or after you get it, those messages should stop. Bumping into anything pops it up. WE GET IT

I remember when it first released, how crazy it was getting something mechanically similar to LttP on the Game Boy.  I'd expected GB Zelda to be more like Zelda NES, so when I saw the first screen I was blown away.

anything that was above bargain-bin nes level quality on game boy back then was rare as hell. so when nintendo started making sure their handheld games were quality titles with lots of content and great graphics it was mind-blowing. this + mario land 2 made the gameboy into something worth having instead of being a wasteland of barely-coherent throwaway titles.

The reason it seems "elevated" is because so many entries in the Zelda series aren't very good

Going back to a lot of gb games via 3ds vc, I don't think many were that good in hindsight. I'm not even touching the game gear games. Even as a kid I knew that game gear sucked compared to game boy even if game gear was in color.

Wario Land was easily my most played gb game back in the day and I don't think even that is good anymore. Decent, sure. But as an adult it barely passes. At this point, I think Dragon Warrior 1-3 are the best game boy games.

I didn't say gb games were shit. There were and are a lot of great game boy games. But many I used to think were the bees knees, compared to my standards today, really don't hold up. I don't think anything I said was much of an overstatement.
