Recently I started watching the videos on Tested.com. I hadn't been following the site much since it's split with Whiskey Media and decided to check it out. To my surprise the content they've been producing has been pretty interesting. Most of which are videos with Adam Savage talking about his various pet projects, building stuff, his past movie prop stories, etc.
One video in particular is where he discussing his 20+ year obsession with the Blade Runner pistol

It's a really cool video and it instantly triggered something in my brain. I have to have this replica prop.
The video details one source for the best replica to buy is: http://www.tomenosuke.com/blaster/
Unfortunately the blaster is out of stock.
At this point I figure, where else could I check? Ebay of course. And sure enough, there's one listing on Ebay. Except it's 1200 bucks:

I contemplated it for a bit. Then decided to make a thread on Tested.com to ask for advice.
To my surprise I received a reply from Norman Chan, one of the dudes from Tested. He explained that it would be a bad idea since it's pretty expensive. He also provided me the email of the distributor from Tomenosuke who is selling some of the kits they still have available. He said they had less then 10 available when he purchases his (which was less then a week ago).
So I email the person inquiring about the product. Thankfully less then an hour later I get a reply from him!
Unfortunately they sold out of the last stock they had of extras :(
He did inform me that he would let me know when they go back in stock but from what it sounds like, they don't produce many of them and they don't do it very often. So now I wait.
I will most definitely own this product. It's just a matter of how long I have to wait.
When I eventually do purchase the prop I will use this thread to detail my build.

But why?

Cool. Does the assembling look tricky?

It doesn't look too complicated. Though it will require screwing a few pieces into place. Also they recommend "bluing" some of the parts which essentially means giving it a worn appearance. That's one aspect I'm not too keen on but I imagine I can do some research and figure it out.
But why?
Blade Runner is basically my favorite movie. Something about owning such an accurate replica is appealing to me.

You're not alone, Fistful! When I saw that video I was also very tempted to pick up a Tomenosuke, but I don't exactly have $1000 to just swing around on a vanity purchase. If you do, please buy it and post numerous pictures so I can live vicariously through you.

PD will go half with you

AFAIK directly from Tomenosuke it's only roughly ~600 bucks. Much more reasonable than 1000 or 1200.
But yeah, when it's back in stock I'm def getting it. Expect a necro bump in the future after this thread dies.

Okay, I get it. This is like how Heidi Klum is my favorite supermodel and having a pair of her panties is appealing to me.

all that money lost, like tears in rain.

I wonder if it'd be cheaper to just get an actual, usable gun that I like instead of this. Like a Beretta M9, or a Glock or something.

I mean you don't buy this because you want a gun, you buy this because it's the goddamn Blade Runner gun.

you're not helping, why is that?
Deckard's gun has gotta be one of the coolest fictional pistols ever. I wish you well on your quest.

I know it's the Blade Runner gun, but all you can really do is look at it. It's not a functioning piece of machinery the way a real gun is. No amount of nerd-cred will change that. And tbh, a real gun is just as display-friendly as something like this, and maybe even a little less shameful (or a different kind of shameful). I don't even like guns, but I'd prefer one to a very expensive, gun-shaped toy. At least that way I have the option of using it.
This is still very cool, though. The guys behind the Tomenosuke are clearly very dedicated to replicating the prop as closely as possible. It's hard not to be impressed by the work they've done.

Actually like a real gun, you wouldn't go through the process of getting this just to show off to other nerds unless you had like a really small penis. I get how you could enjoy having a movie prop around as an emblem of your nostalgia or love for the movie. In that case, having to go through a lot of trouble to get it makes it much more satisfying.
