My post from the ios thread
Plants vs Zombies 2 is out.

I had already played the game via other methods and I can honestly say I didn't like it nearly as much as the first one. It feels grindy, less clever, and more gimmicky than the first one did to me and I was someone who really liked the first one.
You can play it for free and never spend a dime on the upgrade stuff and that's good in theory but it still feels like it was designed as one of those free to play experiences. If you were ideally designing it, the current iteration isn't the best way. I wish it was a normally designed game that cost however much it cost.
I seem to be in the minority on those views though because it seems to be getting great reviews from the press.
edit: I don't want to come off like I hated the game. There were parts I enjoyed. I just didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped or expected to.

Man ive been looking for the ios thread the other day. Thanks.
I agree, so far in mission seven but the please buy begging is annoying.

That sucks. I really enjoyed the first one.

The begging doesn't bother me. It's the design where you go into a world. Complete the path on the world. And then grind in the world to get more keys and stars. I mean its more of a theory argument. You can disguise the fact that you are grinding by building out the path in a more complete manner but something bugs me about the way they approached the design of it.
It's more like it was designed that way to try to not hide the tediousness of it to encourage people to just buy more keys and stars.

nobody could have possibly foreseen EA fucking up Popcap, that was just out of the blue, nope, not a soul saw that coming.
How long again until F2P runs its course? Its here forever, well shit.

If Peggle 2 is infused with IAP bs, I will cry. And it probably will be ($0.99 per special move!)
-
I heard about that on the Gamers With Jobs podcast. Watching a minute long trailer for a reality show to get gold keys so the treasure chests don't drop shit loot. Genius stuff.

Let me channel a mentally unstable minor internet video review celebrity: BETRAYAL!

Personally, I find most Popcap games to be 'one game' ideas. I don't have any desire to play these sequels (Peggle included), even though I played the originals to death.
The real failure of Popcap is that they didn't merge all their puzzle games into some mega game when they had a chance. A PuzzleQuest/Puzzle Pirates type of MMO with Popcap games and polish could have been huge.

It would have taken them 30 years to make.

This is kind of understandable. It's very hard to replicate the charm of the original Plants versus Zombies and the manner in which this one has been created loses some of that charm and originality.
I'd rather see them continually creating new ips and mechanics but that seems highly unlikely obviously under EA.

Needless to say I wont spend a 2,69 euro to unlock a plant.
