September appears to be 'SCARE YOU SHITLESS' Month as we have two games designed to render you petrified, Outlast and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs.
I own both and plan on playing both. Outlast is out now
I played through the first 45 minutes which can be viewed here:

(don't worry, I don't do any commentary or anything)
I'll probably keep doing this in ~45 minute segments as I play.
And I'll probably do the same for Amnesia.

it's weird and cool that these survival horror adventure game shave taken off.
Routine is the one I'm looking forward to. Space station setting is way more appealing to me than old creepy place.
-
I'm definitely hyped for Routine. I really hope they can pull it off.
Continuing to play Outlast in sessions. The game deals a lot in building a ton of biting tension then releasing it with a specific jump scare or white-knuckle scenario. IMO the game does jump scares the correct way.
Here's my second session with it for anyone who cares:

I'll be playing Amnesia tomorrow LIVE ON THE INTERNET.
-
seems they took out the insane mechanic from The Dark Descent. You don't go insane from being in the dark or looking at the monsters.
-
Can I play these games if my computer has doo doo for a graphics card?
-
Amnesia Linux support. :lawd
:piss Outlast Windows-only :piss2

That seems dumb. The pressure to stay in the light was one of the things that made Amnesia so intense. Oh well.
How's this game?

Outlast is pretty f'n tense. The music and atmosphere are excellent.
I updated the OP with the latest gameplay session :)
I'll post ITT when I start my Amnesia live stream. Everyone come watch :)

I laughed so abruptly, i shot snot out of my nose. THANKS, OBAMA.

So... Amnesia doesn't seem to be going for the same approach as the first game. It seems more of a story experience than a horror experience.
It feels it's trying to be more subtle instead of being obviously horror centric. Outlast is very clearly HORROR. Amnesia is trying to be suspenseful.
-
word on the street is that amnesia doesn't have the insanity mechanics of the first one, which is somewhat eyebrow raising to me, but whatevs. prolly good stuff in there either way. You enjoying it so far?

It's a crazy atmospheric game so far. I'm super early so I can't really judge it so far. I will say it's not a overtly "scary". We'll see how the "game" is going forward.
Seems they also nixed inventory all together as well.

If you want to see for yourself what Amnesia is like, you can watch the first 45 minutes which I have updated in the OP :)
-
I hated the insanity in Amnesia. I mean sure it's a cool concept but it made playing the game a chore. If they took it out for this one I might actually give it a go.
-
Ugh Amnesia doesn't hit as often in the scares as Outlast but when they do hit, they hit fucking hard.
