The next ass creed. What can you expect, its ubisoft.
-
no duh
-
here's the latest video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRAzrwRZ-T4
it does look pretty boring there
-
Mehhh gonna skip this
-
I stopped watching after the first reveal. Something about next gen games graphics make them all similar to each other.
-
Already got it pre-ordered for PC. Can't wait. :pimp
-
For TREND? Yes
For CORPORATE ATTITUDE? Yes
For STONER? No
For TRUE DOOM MURDER-HEADS? No
-
you can just feel the copy and paste from Ubisoft's component design documents from that video. These games never manage to stay focused experiences and are full of boring activities.
less of this, more of gunslinger/blood dragon.
(will still buy, I am a sucker for the setting and aesthetic)
-
Will buy on Steam sale for $30ish
-
I'll probably won't even pirate this, it looks :zzz

At first look it grabs your interest, mainly the theme and looks of it..but you need to have insight to see that its basically guaranteed to be another generic game with gimmicks that wont be fresh after a few hours.
"wow I can scan pedestrians to see their personal profile!"
yawn..random stats

Hot garbage.
-
Ubisoft should just make Blood Dragon 2, which is what everybody with a functioning brain wants.

iirc blood dragon and gunslinger were successful. I'm all for smaller, no bullshit games like those two popping up in the future.
-
Most interested in a new Rayman and that Far Cry director's take on oldskool RPGs out of Ubisoft.
-
(will still buy, I am a sucker for the setting and aesthetic)
Same for me unfortunately. The pointless busywork in most of these Ubisoft franchises are real killers.

This is the best way to review games.

Ubisoft games are technically impressive but are boring safe AAA shit. I'm struggling to stay awake during Far Cry 3 as it's so predictable and uninspired.
Essentially Ubi are a bunch of uncreative bitches

Just play Blood Dragon already. Geez!
Just look at this shiznite, dude:

I'm going to, as soon as I 1000/1000 Far Cry 3! I've been starting lots of games lately so I need to 100% a couple of them before I buy anything new, to keep my head clear. It's hard being an achievement whore. Standing around, playing shit games, peeking though windows - watching chicks change their clothes. It's not easy
-
Far cry 3 blood dragon is boring game play wise. Same shit over and over. What's great about is the writing and humor.
-
You'll probably be tired of the gameplay by the time you do that. Blood Dragon is virtually identical to FC3 in that regard, there's not really any great twists to distinguish it at the basic gameplay level. I'm telling you, if you're not having much fun with FC3, then ditch it right now and play Blood Dragon. You'll thank me for it!
-
The Far Cry 3 gameplay is enjoyable, it's just all the trappings are zzzzz and I struggle to comprehend how a team of 100s of cunts with millions of dollars can make such a boring, creatively bankrupt product. Same problem with Hollywood these days.
-
I don't like how oppressive BLood Dragon feels. It is dark all the fucking time with pitch black sky. Don't like.

Nah, that's how it should be.

You have to have pitch black sky because: neon
-
I understand the intent. I just don't like that.

Far Cry 3 is good fun. Sure, it can be repetitive, but the mix of stealth action and hunting is awesome.
Sometimes of y'all are just too bitter
I feel the same way at times.
The ironic thing is that Far Cry 2 is held in such high regards by some people even though that game is fundamentally broken imo. I think Far Cry 3 is a great example of big budget mass market done very well.
For whatever reason Watch Dogs doesn't excite me the same way it seems to excite a lot of people. I mean I hope its cool but all the hacking stuff doesn't really fascinate me.
-

yeah as I said the action and gameplay is all good. It's just everything else that sucks. Worst gaming protagonist ever. I cant think of a worse one
-
I'm pretty sure the plot/protagonist of Far Cry 3 are some kind of bizarre parody of the perceived target market's power fantasy (which the game enables).
I don't think it works particularly well but I also didn't take it at face value.
-
That would be too clever though... because other Ubi games are so milquetoast I just cant comprehend the designers being capable of advanced cognitive concepts like "taking the piss" etc.
-
The writer did intend it to be subversive. There's a great RPS interview with him out there where he points out all the 'clues' and stuff, but he sounds like a flailing crazy person in that.
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/12/19/far-cry-3s-jeffrey-yohalem-on-racism-torture-and-satire/
I agree with John Walker here. You have to be a bit more clever to satirize video games than do simply go and do all the same shit they do. It's like those hilarious self-aware fetch quests that are sometimes in RPGs.
-
Fucking hell, mind blown. I see the game completely differently now.
-
Read the thing. He sound legitimately crazy, like he's on coke or something.
-
Pretty much every Ubisoft game looks great and sounds great on paper. Then I play them and something is wrong.
I was excited about Assassin's Creed and well 1 wasn't great. People like the sequels, but they just became lame open world games to me.
I was excited about Far Cry 2 and well fucking outposts. 3 is funish, but nowhere near as ambitious and interesting as the flawed 2.
I was excited about the new Prince of Persia, it looked great and well yeah. Too bad we won't even get an improved sequel now.
Basically this is what happens with every Big Ubisoft game. They sound great, maybe even look great and then disappoint for whatever reason.
Except, I never thought Watchdogs looked that great honestly and have basically ignored it. Because I just assume it's going to be part of the same old Ubisoft cycle.
-
It doesn't entirely work as the satire it intends to be, but you can see flashes of it here and there.
-
RED STEEL
Heap upon me the shame I deserve for buying that game Day 1. :snoop
-
Cant be that bad, they'll just cobble together stuff from all their other series, sure they've learned something. Maybe. Probably.
-
Also Far Cry 3 and Far Cry Blood Dragon are awesome, fuck Far Cry 2.
-
Fucking hell, mind blown. I see the game completely differently now.
game is aspiring to be the peak of hipster action irony. In that goal, it does okay, although I guess Spec Ops is better if you want a 'commentary' on shootan gaems
Yeah Spec Ops was very very good in that regard, it aped Apocalypse Now pretty well, which is what I was hoping FC3 would do.
The fact that FC3 is not obvious in it's intent of satire, leads me to believe that the writer is backpedaling to some degree. You know how Tommy Wiseau claims The Room is satire, when that clearly wasn't the intention of the film? I was getting the same vibe from that RPS article.
-
Haven't played FC3 yet but FC3:BD annihilates FC2. FC2 is shit.

Far Cry 2 is a clever and ambitious idea. It's not actually a very good game. Far Cry 3 turned it into a fun game.

I LOOOVE FC2, but I realize that the ways in which its broken probably validate my personal play-style. I would almost always roll with a sniper rifle and stay off the roads, so that's two big problems people have with the game defused. Enemies homing in on you when you shoot (because they have excellent hearing, but also because the stealth is broken)? Not an issue when you engage them from half a kilometer away. Respawning patrols on the roads and checkpoints? Not a problem if you stay off the roads. Jamming weapons? Not a problem if you grab a fresh weapon every time you go out on a mission. Sudden bout of malaria? Not an issue if the enemies are, again, half a kilometer away. Pop a pill and keep shooting, moving position with every other shot. It's all about compulsive sniping, basically. That, and the occasional mortar strike. And tactical arson.
That second map was really unnecessary though. I played it again a few months ago and lost steam a couple missions into the second map.
FC3 made different approaches much more viable, but I ended up playing it the same way for the most part, only instead of fire and mortars, there were wild animals and functioning stealth. That's broken in a different way. The usual procedure: free any caged animal, headshot whoever's corpse is unlikely to be discovered, sabotage the alarm system, stealth kill every remaining enemy.
-
lol if anyone needed more proof about how boring this game looks, people are talking about fucking FC3 instead of the hottest new ubisoft franchise.
-
Watched that new 14 min trailer for Watch Dogs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEeEoU2wyXg). Seems like your usual open world sandbox game with some extra hacking elements.
When I first saw Watch Dogs I thought it'd be pretty cool if there was an option to go heavy on the realism and AI to make it a more challenging open world game. Not that realism and AI are the only ways to increase difficulty, but it's something rarely done in open world games. But it seems fairly obvious that's not what this game is about.. more like asscreed with guns. Oh well.
-
I hope its not like Assassins Creed... the last few Ass Creed games have all wowed me in some way, be it with mechanics, graphics or setting -- then they have procedurally bored me to death with repetition, bad AI, and increasingly bad story. I still haven't finished ACIII, I got some way through Connor's missions and just moved on to better games. I feel like a mug for ever buying it.
Watch_Dogs looks to have promise, but I could quite easily see the same thing happening. I would be okay with it being a short game, with plenty of side shit to do around the city. I really hope they don't go and try and make some pretentious magnum opus out of it. Games that try and go that route tend to make me feel:

Will buy on steam sale fot 10ish and probably not play longer than 3 hours.

Definitely, Far Cry 2 is a game you say you like to be contrary and how you respect that it punishes you and there are consequences. Meanwhile everyone else is having fun with Saints Row

This is what that game is to me for now. Not disappointing, but that guy making a fool of himself.
-
gameplay was too slow to match up with all the 80s nostalgia but otherwise yes that game was boner city. made me wanna bust out the sega cd.
