Ok kinect is just a camera right.

So its 100 bucks more because of a camera? Still doesnt explain how the ps4 is 50% faster.

Its just a mystery

Why was the Wii U $350? Why was the Vita $300?

Oscar thats a bit dumb because we all know crazy ken bet on cell instead of a better gpu.

Now the consoles have the same structure and setup and MS has put in worse parts for more money. Sony had to design the cell, also blu ray

MS designed the chip in house.

MS is aiming to create everything in house, from devices like Surface to silicon chips like the custom AMD Jaguar in Xbox One. This is just the start.

While I really like the Surface as a piece of tech (and look forward to owning a fire sale priced pro one day) the results haven't been, uh, encouraging so far.

no, it's not dumb.  c'mon.  the ps3 was more expensive because of shit sony wanted to push that didn't necessarily result in a more powerful gaming system.  the xbox is more expensive because of shit ms wants to push.

Ok thats true

But at least blu ray was somehow vindicated

Pro is great and Pro 2 is improving on it like every Haswell device plus new accessories like docking station and battery covers. It's the RT that's hurting them and for a good reason.

I like RT for travelling and simple on the go stuff but pricing it like an Apple product with no apps and no desktop compatibility killed it. On top of that, all OEMs bailed out because Intel got their shit together with Haswell and this fall the new Atom will put RT to rest.

OEMs like Toshiba are also learning. They priced their new 8 inch Windows 8 tablet at $329.

Spring 2014.

They need to push Titanfall and $500 SKU only might not cut it.

microsoft need to look at the situation they've set themselves up in, have a full blown mea culpa and just eat the loss. the losses from RROD hurt, but it didn't torpedo them like this will.

there are more than enough ways to monetise this box once it's set up in living rooms ogling domestic consumer habits, hawking data to whoever pays for it, but that's meaningless as long as it lingers on shelves.

before the blowback, they could've maybe aimed for price parity with the PS4; as things stand, every sail must be bent to push it lower. there must be a lot of resistance and trepidation towards the whole idea of console hardware at microsoft for them to stay this suicidal course.

hell, if it came in at $325, they could've loaded it with whatever consumer alley rape policies they could've conjured and it still would've done monster sales.

The best thing about this is all those PR pricks MS put out there before and directly after Xbone announced who have to eat their own shit. Backtracking on almost every bit of their over marketed bullshit....nothing makes me happier.

So what is MS gonna do with those millions or thousands or whatever cloud servers?

It's still gonna sell really well, outside our nerdsphere the mainstream public has already forgotten the DRM clusterfuck from earlier this Summer. All this messageboard fist-shaking means jack shit at the Wal-Mart and Best Buy counters of the country. And the vast majority give 0 fucks about any power parity, they just buy shit based on games they want to play and wherever their online friends are. The only thing really fucking them right now (here in the US) is that $100 price difference. You can pay $400 and play Battlefield 4, or you can pay $500 and play Battlefield 4.

I think it is more likely Microsoft will just drop the price to match the PS4.

the camera has processors in it

it's pretty expensive to make

kind of like asking how sony let ms make a cheaper and more powerful system last time.

yeah, the camera is gigantic and even has a fan on it.  people are selling kinect 2 short by comparing it to kinect 1.  but I don't know if people who would spend $500 on the box care about a better kinect, especially when microsoft has really own shown it off in tech demos.  it's way too expensive for novelty.

So much this. All my army brahs are talking about the One, not PS4. I don't know if they even realize there is a price difference.

wow all your us army brahs.

5000 sales guaranteed.

Yeah, but army people aren't the best metric of....anything, even anecdotally. They love the Americabox by americasoft and always have.

Americabox made in China.
