Title: iOS 7 heads up
Post by: Eel O'Brian on September 13, 2013, 01:14:25 PM
From what I'm reading it runs like shit on iPad 3, and has some effects disabled.  Might be a good idea to hold off updating for awhile.

Of course it runs like shit on an iPad 3.  That's so old now.  You should have upgraded to the new iPad already.  :smug

Why would anyone rush to update iOS?  Let people do the real beta-testing for a few weeks first.

Here's the weird thing - they're disabled in the iPad 2 as well, but not on the iPad Mini...which is basically a smaller iPad 2.

I hear it runs like shit on the iphone 4 too, which is a bummer for me.  Oh well, I'll enjoy iOS8 when I upgrade in a year and a half.

As an owner of a iPhone 4 I'm probably going to skip this upgrade. Responsiveness is more important than new features to me.

legitimately surprised this isn't a thread about iOS 7 deleting everything on your tablet

Sometimes it feels like these updates are Apple just saying "Not on this year's model?  LOLTOOBADBETTERUPGRADE!"

Is it like this with Android OS devices too?

Ugh, guess I might not bother updating to iOS 7 after all. Only one year of proper software support is pretty terrible. This makes it a bit more tempting to get a new iPad when the next generations come out but I don't want to bother if they're just going to be considered outdated in a year.

It's actually typically much worse on Android. Many phone vendors won't even bother letting you upgrade the OS whatsoever so you're forced to buy a whole new phone if you want an updated OS. I think the Nexus lineup is the only one that guarantees software updates.

Sounds like it works with my 4S, so I'll upgrade next week.

Still a year out on my next phone upgrade.

My wife hasn't had any problems with her 4s, but some people have. The problems seem to be related to restoring from backups and such....probably will get sorted out with the official release.

Whoa, any specifics?

I was really looking forward to installing this on my NEW discontinued IPad . :(

Apple doesn't really care about actual specs and limitations, only the age of hardware. As far they're concerned, the Mini is their best iPads to date.

General lagginess, when changing wallpaper it can hang for 20-30 seconds, transparency effects are turned off

I waited until 7.0.3 -- it is better than I'd feared, but still a bit laggy on input from time to time.

It's a bit less laggy if you turn off the elaborate animations. I should've kept my iPhone 4 on iOS6.

I find it happens a lot when trying to select a text field for entry, prior to the keyboard popping up.
