Amber Violette, called 911 on Friday evening, saying she had found her daughter, Katlin, with her head severed from her body, Clayton Police Chief Glen Allen said.

"It's the most horrific thing I've seen in 13 years of police work," Clayton Sgt. S. P. Lapsley said.

Deputy U.S. marshals arrested the girl's father, John Patrick Violette, in Washington at a hotel near Capitol Hill, Lapsley said.

Investigators found Violette's vehicle at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, learned he had taken a flight to Washington, and tracked his credit card to the hotel, Lapsley said.

Police said Violette, 37, would be held in Washington pending an extradition on a murder charge expected to be filed in Clayton.

How does one do something like that? A 4 year old girl? Cutting someone's head off is sadistic enough, especially when you consider he must have done it slowly with house tools - but 4 years old? My god :(

I dunno, am I unique in getting no emotional response from these sorts of stories?  North Carolina is a world away.  This isn't my backyard.

Poor kid. :(

There was a really fucked up occurrence of this type of thing here in Pittsburgh last decade. Some teenager who didn't like his parents got really high, listened to some metal to get himself excited, and decapitated both his mother and father with a saw. I was pretty young at the time it was reported, so the news was pretty disturbing to me. Still is.
