For the PS4? I haven't used a PS3 in three years but when I had one it's online service was unreliable at best. I seemed to never be able to play with friends, and when I could talking to them wasn't guaranteed. The download times for updates were painful. After I got a 360 I understood what I was missing: no headache online play.
Has Sony learned? Are they copying Xbox Live?
-
They copied the subscription model for starters.
-
it seemed to work really well in all the sizzle reels. don't worry about it.
-
I can download shit, play online and chat, don't know what y'all whining about.
-
Back when I was using a wired connection I got great speeds, reliable multiplayer, and good voice chat quality with my PS3. It seems like they'll add most of the requested features to the PS4 so I'm expecting it to be pretty great. I don't care about cross-game chat, but custom soundtracks is a nice addition.
-
probably good if you're talking current XBL. keep in mind XBL is improving too.
some things we know are better, some Sony claims are better, and others we won't know until the system is out.

Oh great, then 56k should have been awesome.

SYNCING TROPHIES

Xbox One: SINKING TROPHIES
OT: Sony absolutely has it in them to make a service equivalent to Xbox Live. The question is if they can keep up with whatever Microsoft delivers next, continuously for the next generation.
I'm guessing Sony is smart enough to set aside more memory for their system this time; they had underestimated the amount of foundation needed to provide central services, as they'd visualized a future where developers would handle most of that on their own, however they liked. Which was strange, considering the way their hardware design dictated memory usage for graphics.

PSN is already the same, if not better ???

You are trolling, or speaking from ignorance.
In what way do you think PSN is better, in terms of matchmaking, gathering online friends, chat, etc.?
-
Odds are slightly better than Nintendo, at least.
-
After all these years I still don't understand what Xbox Live does so much better to deserve thread titles like this one.

The store is better, psn+ is better than xbl.
Matchmaking etc i dont remember really but i dont remember big differences when i used to play online really.
Psn looks better too and is quicker it seems.
Everything except download speeds.

I have to agree. xbl is good, but...it's not THAT much better. It does a few things better, mostly things that were issues with ps3 on the os level (like trophies). PSN + is a steal, xbl's only benefits I find are cross game chat (which I don't even use), and a more populous game population due to being the more popular system. Psn is also less fickle in regards to connection types. I've had more than a few issues with xbl and NAT settings, making it impossible for me to play games with my entire friends list. When put together, the two services are probably about even, with xbl getting the edge due to connection speed, a larger library, and having more players. The biggest kicker being that xbl is more far stable. No one month outages due to hacks, here! But that was so long ago it's hard to hold it against Sony.

Cross game party chat and invites, and matchmaking is also generally worse. You know, the actual shit that matters.
I have no doubt PS4 will be miles ahead of PS3 though

Yeah, I agree that PS4 will have a smarter and better implementation which likely matches all the current XBL features. And as you say, Adm. Viscen (this is THE BORE, shouldn't you be a "Rear Admiral"?) the cross-game chat is definitely a point, but I think people overlook the Party feature's significance.
Group chat was one thing, but having a Party means not only being able to chat, but being able to move not only from lobby-to-lobby, but also from game-to-game seamlessly, and chatting the whole while. Even if one player has to receive a Title Update, the system handles the disconnect, update, and reconnection to the Party without a hiccup.
Lager, the store might be better under PSN+, particularly since it is the only way to buy something and keep shopping; background downloads are exclusive to PSN+ last time I checked. The store is probably one of XBL's weakest features; it's difficult to find things even when specifically looking for them. However, I'd argue that the ability to consistently download demo versions of all digital titles is a big advantage over the maybe-maybe-not implementation in PSN's store.
If you're mainly referring to the free games under PSN+, there is little contest: XBL's free games have been pretty anemic.

I havent had any issues with multiplayer on psn, but i agree the xbl experience was smoother with invites for sure.
-
I haven't had issues with mp in psn either aside from player count.
