Meh, wish they'd stop making mediocre shooters and make more fuck awesome action platformers like Outland. Yeah I get that Outland bombed horribly because no one gives a shit about metroidvania games besides hardcores hence the death of the Igavania franchise, the lack of Shadow Complex 2, and probably no more Guacamelee. But still, I don't get people's obsession with mediocre shmups and why they thrived so much this last gen. Geometry Wars was fucking good, I get why that got popular and kickstarted the genre on X360/PS3. But almost everything else wasn't good! Super Stardust HD is ok, but the stages take forever and it's pretty boring. Who wants a shmup to last hours for a full run? Resogun, besides great visuals, doesn't really look like anything special either. At least some games like Everyday Shooter tried unique artsy takes since they knew their gameplay was nothing special. Ah whatever, morning caffeine rant.
tldr; After Cave games it's hard to care about these boring, but pretty, shmups. Oh and Outland was fucking awesome.

sorry bebs outland was subpar

Disagree, but regardless of quality, the world needs more action platformers, they've become extremely rare. Meanwhile there's a ton of shmups, fps, tps and zombie games and the world doesn't need more of those.

There is the Endless mode in Super Stardust HD for people who are impatient. It gets intense very quickly.
Outland is decent.

There are a lot of indie action-platformers even beyond the ones you just listed. Check out Rogue Legacy, Gunpoint or Risk of Rain.
Personally I'm kinda over the genre because I'm just tired of side-scrolling games. I understand why it's cheaper to make a game like that, but eh, no thanks.

Gunpoint is not an action platformer plz :snoop
But it is a really good puzzle game.

I keep visualizing this thread title in Comic Sans, and seeing it as "Re: SO GUN" with a Shiba-ken in the background.

Volgarr came out recently and it's incredibly good. There's also a new game from the makers of Gigantic Army (which was also really good) called Steel Strider that just came out, but I haven't played it yet.

this is another, obviously influenced by ghosts'n goblins, and it's free: http://www.locomalito.com/maldita_castilla.php
and while I agree with Bebpo in that I want more action platformers as it's a preferred genre, it felt like in recent years games like Resogun have been scarce. I don't lump Geometry Wars or SSDHD together with shoot em ups like Cave games or MUSHA. Probably doesn't make sense when you think about it, but I put Resogun and those games in the same group as Shatter, Space Invaders Extreme, Pac-Man CE, Galaga Legions, etc. Updated versions of old arcade/atari games. I won't be satisfied until there's a neon epilepsy nightmare version of Gyruss.

Looks amaze :mouf

Outland fucking sucked.
Also they make a lot of action platformers now.
I want more rail shooters.
