just sold my ps4 to a guy on craigslist for 600 and want to pick up a new video card. any of you guys have recommendations for something to watch out for in the next month before christmas?
saw some deals on a gtx 770 with three games and a 100 off coupon for the nvidia shield. i could get that card and the shield for around 500. is it worth it or should i go with a radeon?
hairy beard and cock pics for serious replies.
-
GTX 780ti is probably the go-to card to get afaik

thanks for the chart zero. 780ti is out of my range. looking for a midrange, no more than 350.
maybe i should snag a cheap 7850 now for 110 and wait until new cards next year. damn...gonna have to listen to the cruncheons again. pretty sure they recommended some.
i kinda want to play around with an nvidia shield too...anyone have one of those?
-
money no object - 780ti
high end value performance - r9 290 (not 290x)
--somewhere inbetween these two - gtx 770--
mid range value - 280x
wouldn't go below a 280x cause then you're on the fast track to console territory.
prices aren't as good as they were a couple of months ago, annoyingly, when a $200 7950 or $240 7970 would've been a killer stop-gap. if you're into the idea of the shield in a big way (i think it does 60fps streaming now?) that does sound like a pretty good deal. nvidia also has the shadowplay and g-sync aces too.
-
if you want the Shield, make sure your router can handle the game streaming. and yeah, the other week Shield was updated to support 60fps streaming and 'console mode' (plug it into a TV, stream signal from PC, play with wireless controller).
-
damn. a shield sounds like so much fun just to screw around with.
-
280x is on a par with a 770, is a bit cheaper, and mantle might be nice on the few games that'll use it. Then again you'd lose out on things like shadowplay and batman smoke. Can't go far wrong with either. Personally, I'm still rocking a 6850 and nothing's making me budge until I see some 20nm cards.

Eel and I are both in the "wait for new cards next summer/fall" camp

Me as well. 800 series is when I'm upgrading again.
-
i was hoping these new consoles would make my two and a half year old mid range dick look pretty small and make me pull the trigger on something with a spit shine and little more girth. now i'm seeing even killzone videos look just okay at half the framerate i'd want and i'm still totally okay with hanging out in the shower room.
-
I keep thinking about getting a new card, but then I realize that there's not really any game out there that doesn't still run pretty well on my rig. Maybe next year!

Me too.
I'm dangling on that fence due to Titanfall's March release date. I might wait, or I might just upgrade early next year to be ready for the 2014 GOAT
:rejoice
-
yea but this 5770 won't do much longer
-
Neither will my 4890. I'll get a 7950 Boost Edition soon if I can, otherwise I'll just wait for the 280X to get cheaper or for NV 800 series or whatever.
-
If you want to save even more money, try the used market like ebay.

This, exactly. I want to upgrade but when I can still max-spec any game at 1080p with a $299 card from 2 years ago... WHY

I honestly think I'm the only person on earth that just doesn't think Titanfall looks that interesting. It's a shooter... with MECHS. Ok. So? Who gives a shit? Ooooh, you can play multi-player, just like every other fucking shooter in the universe. Don't. Care.

eh, it has verticality. a little quake III charm. the mechs i don't really care about, but having having 3 axis to think about is something that puts it above dreck like killzone. been a long time since a big budget shooter has demanded anything from my mouse hand.
it just looks like they thought about its mechanics first and how it's gonna look on a sizzle reel second.
but yeah, buying a AAA multiplayer shooter from EA is such a fucking chore. it's already more upfront than i'd be happy paying and you're basically signing up for a subscription which you pay quarterly. it's going to probably have to be better than i think it's gonna be to buy it anywhere near day 1.
-
Titanfall looks like a lot of fun and I've been tired of online shooters for months/years now. First one in a while that looks fresh to me.
Origin is definitely a pain. Stuff like GFWL, Origin and Uplay immediately drop the value of games.
-
I've never had issues with u-play... Origin tho :yuck
Also, Destiny seems way more fun to me, BECAUSE LOOT
-
I'm willing to sell a 680 GTX 4GB FTW for $350 plus shipping if you're interested
Got 2 of those
The 4gb is handy if you like playing games like Oblivion with a bunch of mods
If not, I'd recommend getting a 770 GTX with a 3rd party cooler like the EVGA ACX or Asus's 3 fans cooler
-
Basically, if it doesn't exploit/excite (depending the way you look at it) the reward center of your brain, Triumph isn't interested.
-
Kinda thinking about getting a 780ti.
I'd go for it if you're using anything less than a 680 GTX
Nvidia is gonna take awhile to make smaller dies of their next-gen chip
Maxwell is not gonna beat the 780 TI until Nvidia can do so
That's why most people are predicting the first batch of Maxwells are gonna be mid-end solutions

:yeshrug
I like to play games to get shit, not to do shit

So why does he like D3?

he can watch Brazzers while playing D3 in windowed mode

Seriously, for people who are already PC gamers with pretty good rigs, it makes almost no sense to buy a Xbone/PS4 before a videocard upgrade
The gap between games running on a $400 videocard and PS4/Xbone is more than twice the jump from a last-gen system to PS4/Xbone
-
thanks for all the input guys. i think im just gonna pick up a sub 150 card until new ones hit later on next year. think this might be best way to maximize my moneys seeing as current gen games don't push too many cards out there as it is.

if anyone is building a new pc and has a microcenter near you they have a hell of a deal on a i7 4770k for $199. you can also get a fat discount on a motherboard while you are buying the processor. i7 4770k might be a little overkill for gaming but at the price what the hell.

Yeah, me and friend were just talking about that this morning. That's a hella good price for that chip, they're just selling for nearly $350 on Newegg.
-
yeah. driving 1.5 hours to pick one up. bitfenix prodigy case while im at it. :hyper
-
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. Man, I would jump on that shit now if I had the scratch lying around, but I'm broke as a joke. Hope there's some good deals to be had in mid-December when I'm flush with bonus money.
-
just read on slickdeals that it you can ask for a free copy of FF XIV as well. if its for free its for me.
-
I JUST upgraded to an i7 3770k earlier this year as well. lame-o
edit: oh, in-store only. nvm.
-
I didn't even know there was one in St. Louis. Ordered one. Thanks for the heads up.
-
Microcenter is great. I bought my 4770k at release for somewhere in the high $200s, a motherboard discount, and a free intel shame tarp!!

I don't think the upgrade would be worth the $200 anyway

Fry's also pricematch Microcenter if it's within 10 miles or so
Microcenter is a pretty cool place, kinda like a mini Fry's without the sales douches.
I don't know if they still have it but each receipt used to have a 10% coupon for next time. It's usually for another date but last time they were cool enough to let me buy something cheap and then use it for a purchase that was more than $1000.
