Title: Calling Black-Bore: We need to talk bout dat Best Man Holiday
Post by: Himu on November 23, 2013, 01:32:36 AM
Ya'll see this?

Black film that has nothing to do with Tyler Perry, black people in a normal role and not as a goddamn slave or someone FIGHTING THE FIGHT, just normal black folks doing their thing. Best support this movie.  :maf

Haven't seen it. Didn't see the original either but its always nice to have movies with normal black people in it instead of having to shuck and jive it up for mass american consumption.

I'm not really a hater of Perry movies though. I mean his movies aren't my cup of tea but I understand why they exist and why they appeal to certain people. The issue is more I wish he wasn't the only major voice and there was more diversity.

What is Wrath talking about? Best Man Holiday is a sequel to a 90s black movie.

Perry can do his thing, Stoney. But like you I wish he weren't the only game in town.

Every time they make black movies now it is some historical movie. Like, this is what black people dealt with in the past to teach us all a history lesson. Or in the case of Precious just makes me sad. The only exception in recent years are Boondocks and Black Dynamite. There's nothing wrong with the other types, but I don't see it as very diverse for a group of people. It also gets annoyng that the only time I see a mass of people who look like me on screen it is the old stereotypical "we are being discriminated against" thing.

I wish every minority ethnic group in America from Asians on down to Hispanics and Arabs could have their own own movies where it is just them being normal so unless I'm missing something - do they even exist? -   I guess I should be grateful.

The Best Man.

Really, Wrath? Even if it were written abd directed by an Arab?

Insert sweden's gender equality rating system.

Women can't even get movies that aren't focused on men. Or we get traveling pants or some crap.

Yeah it is so curious how Hollywood simply does not reflect the true demographic of America. I bet if there were more Ugly Betty's or something equivalent in the mainstream, Hollywood would be A LOT more relevant than it is today. Women, professionally, are doing way better than men. How come there hasn't been a film - to my knowledge - that comments on this without going down the rabbit hole that her time is better spent being a housewife and needing a man?

I also haven't seen an movie starring Asians that isn't in a martial arts movie in a LONG time that is made in America. I actually think they have it worse off than women.

Native Americans? Fuck.

The ones not focused on men are still actually focused on them, just not from their POV. It's like this woman is so empowered and raw raw women, but she still needs a man because obvs she's not complete.
