Does this depress you or does it give you joy in the fact that no more games will ever get a 11/10 again? And how does this fact effect how we see reviews today?
I for one am overjoyed at the same time dissapointed that no new Zelda game will be rated as highly from reviewers for the sake of people like Eiji Aonuma(sp?) who are trying to make a better game than the creator of said game. Could this be one of the reasons why new devs dont even try any more like with Crash Bandicoot?

Super Mario Galaxy got better reviews on average than Ocarina of Time.

Super Mario Galaxy got better reviews on average than Ocarina of Time.
But did it get a better review from Doug Erickson?

Super Mario Galaxy got better reviews on average than Ocarina of Time.
And it was the better game so it all works out.

Who the fuck cares

Thought provoking
-
Never played. Looked boring.
-
most overrated game and series of all time. Has not aged well. Was succeeded by the superior games Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

Heartfelming

I agree, but it's important to point out the superior games Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are a 7.5 and 7.0, respectively. So I guess that makes Ocarina of Time a 6.5 or so

Oh look a gaf thread
-
Damian: worst poster, or worstest poster? We report, you decide.

Actually that isnt true, Zelda OOT 64 scores 99 and both galaxy games score 97 on metatcritic.
It probably would be more correct to say that Galaxy games have more positive reviews than OOT though.

As usual Creepy Old guy does no research of his own.

It doesn't surprise me that a Nintard thinks fondly of the days when Nintendo games were given the utmost attention and respect from gaming journalists and the gaming masses in general. In 1998, OOT was a pretty big deal. In 2011, nobody gave a shit about Skyward Sword. Mario 3D World got some attention but pales in comparison to 15 years ago. I wonder if that, combined with the Wii U's utter irrelevance, is what triggered a look down memory lane.

I can agree with that.

Fine lock thread and be done with it. I have my PC back so i dont really care.

Metacritic? LMAO. Use Gamerankings, son.
-
Interesting. I thought they had the same reviews except metacritic has user reviews. That say more about Galaxy than Zelda: OoT though.
-
Majora's mask was better

Unfortunately for the nay-sayers, Zelda turned out great. Really great. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is certainly not the videogame equivalent of a Hanson album or a James Cameron epic; Zelda: OoT is videogaming at its most excellent, where it stands out as a work of quality art rather than a successful demographic venture.
-
Yeah such high ratings overallaround won't ever happen again cause vidya 'journalism' is plagued by contrarian feggits like Tim Rogers now. And as noted by several others in this thread OoT isn't even the best game in the series anyway.

Nah, it's okay. It's customary to exaggerate past greatness at funerals.

...that's a direct Van Cruncheon quote, isn't it?

not until you apologize
-
Forget the hype and over-the-top phraseology of the erstwhile bleeding-edge pundits; Zelda: OoT needs to be experienced in order to truly appreciate how intelligent and comprehensive a work of game design it is.
-
GTA IV was up there, and GTA IV sucked. So who cares?
GTA IV continues to be the highest-rated game this gen. GTA V almost beat it, but it's firmly at no. 2 now :smug the better game won

This coming from someone that has defended Other M...

I hate to side with Fandrex on just about anything (other than the fact that pure android products are generally the tits) but er, yeah. Raban and Sceneman have some of the wonkiest fucking taste on the forum. They're generally nice people, though.

A friend of mine in college had a favorite addendum he liked to include after viciously insulting someone: "but he means well!"

I'm happy to be compared to Sceneman, at least he plays games instead of just bitching about them :P
-
Every two-bit commentator in the videogame journalism business had an opinion on the game, and, for several months prior to its release, it became decidedly vogue to bash a game most folks had yet to play.
Why was that? Because most of us gamers knew in our heart of hearts that this game was going to be something special. Shigeru Miyamoto, the game's often-lauded mastermind, frequently referred to the then-underway Zelda project as potentially his greatest videogame accomplishment yet.

No question, who doesn't love Raban and Sceneman? :rejoice Just felt it needed to be said.

and its also just not possible to make a game anymore that has gigantic leaps in playability against everything else on the market at that time.
I mean, criminy, pre-98 3D gaming was pretty fecking shitty, weren't it?
-
3d gaming before lock-on :holeup

Link to the Past is arguably as good, if not better and more important than it
Majora's Mask had better sidequests
Wind Waker *could* have been better than it
A Link Between Worlds is the best overworld since LTTP
it's sad that they basically had to tweak the LTTP overworld to achieve that... Skyward Sword could have had a good overworld if the system was more capable -- less seams between the big three areas, one big world etc.
Z-targeting was massive... but the importance of OOT is routinely overstated. Whenever someone says its their favourite, I picture them as 15-20 years old and they know nothing Jon Snow

The latest Mario Kart sold far more than any Zelda game ever did.

It's a much better game too.

I believe it's possible but i don't know if anyone will try. Seems like every game these days stick to what people know. If you're playing a game with shooting, it's that left trigger, right trigger, etc. thing.
Like, I think Assassin's Creed had that leap. I remember people complaining that there wasn't going to be jump button because they didn't understand how it would play. Batman Arkham Asylum sort of had that leap with its combat system.
