I put in a disc (one I had just been playing last week) and the screen went black and would not come back on. Turning the PS3 off and on again, the PS3 boots to a black screen and does nothing. I can make the console boot, but only by unplugging it for a few seconds.
I can load the shop or PSN digital games, but loading the disc causes the same problem. I tried deleting the game's game data and going into safe mode and "restoring the file system," no luck.
I guess that leaves "rebulid database," which sucks because it destroys my folders which are jam packed with shit.
If that doesn't work, what else? Does anyone know the root cause of this problem?

Can you watch Blu-ray movies?
I bet it has something to do with your disc drive.

The weird thing is that the console itself will not boot to a menu after this happens though. It has to be completely powered down to display an image at all. So it has to be more than the disc drive?
Just tried a Blu Ray and it does work. wtf

OK now I got Uncharted to load. Last night I tried MGS HD collection and Ratchet Future.

Do you have any PS1 disc games? Try one.

Uncharted works.
Last week MGS HD worked, I played it for like 45 minutes. After deleting its game data last night, it loaded enough to ask if I wanted to download its patch before black screening. Now it doesn't even do that.
The PS2 version of MGS2 works.

Wait, this is an old BC system? It's probably slowly dying.
