Title: 2013: yay, nay, or gay?

The yays:

+ I made more money than ever
+ I became completely debt free, a feat that I never thought was possible considering I was $87k in the hole with student loans when I graduated
+ Finally got off my ass and started my MBA
+ Got in pretty good shape. I gained a lot of weight in the past couple of years due to eating like shit and not exercising
+ Spent less time on the internet than ever

The nays:

- Had even less sex than in 2012
- I got another Wii U for Mario, which was a mistake in hindsight

The gays:

A week ago my sister was rushed to intensive care and almost died due to complications from an illness. She was almost literally on her death bed. My parents, who are extremely angry and bitter people who I barely talk to anymore due to said angry and bitter behavior (along with stealing from me), actually turned into decent human beings. I wonder if it will last. Probably not but I can hope.

Decent year. 2012 felt a lot better, but that was because I had moved out of my parent's place all on my own, from a small CT farm town to the big city basically overnight. Then I worked at three different places (third place I'm still at.) I felt much more accomplished.

- Got a new job with better pay and benefits for the first time in my life
- Had the hottest dates I've ever had so far (both of them were milfs with huge racks :drool )
- My blog got plugged at a bunch of really big media outlets

Nay:

- I'm out $300 on my HDTV cause I broke it (I paid $100 for the extended warranty, which wasn't covered by accidental damage)
- My relationship with my mom seems to be getting worse (even though things are pretty calm right now) and I'd really like to get rid of her some how.
- Some friends and family members died.
- Haven't seen any particularly good T.V. show or played any great games this year.
- While the new job itself is fine, it's far as hell and that's not very fun.
- I still have my old job, which I do on a contract basis, but almost everyone quit over the past year, most of them were people I liked.
- Found out I got kicked out of college for some very pathetic reasons, and cause of my new job I couldn't enroll in any CC classes all year.

Gay:

Surprisingly none this year! No dude tried to hit on me or offer a blowjob, oddly enough.

Post by: tiesto on December 15, 2013, 10:50:11 PM: Year started out really boring and uneventful, then I found out my defense contractor job of 9 years wanted to relocate most of our plant (including me) to Melbourne FL. Which, I've been to a bunch of times since my aunt and uncle live there (and my grandparents had a summer condo around there back in the 90's)... and which I didn't like :P

So I was depressed for a few months following this news, really worried about the future... I bought a house back in 2011 and was worried if I would have to sell it and move back in with my mom. Luckily, I found a new job doing something that's a lot more morally sound than coding software for drones, not to mention it's much closer to my house (30 min as opposed to 1h5min in traffic...). It's a LOT of work so far (if you told me that coding software for special ed administration would be harder than for drones I would have laughed my ass off), and my web development skills were pretty rusty since I only did desktop software work while at the defense contractor... but I've been learning an absolute ton, and I know I'm helping special ed teachers out by making cool, easy to use, and aesthetically pleasing web software for them to use... so they spend less time in administration, and more time with their students... :-[

Dating was on hold during the whole job situation... was seeing a Jewish girl from Queens for a bit at the beginning of the year, but she seemed extremely needy (wanted me to put in all the effort of seeing her, paying for her, etc) and then when the job situation hit I broke it off since I didn't have time for it. I said to myself that I would get back on the dating boat once I find a new job and then get settled... of course then right as I was about to start my new job... I was browsing OKC on my phone for the hell of it... saw a girl who was a really high (like 96% match) who was from right nearby, and who was really cute. So I started talking to her on there, she seemed a bit guarded at first in her messages (I later found out that this was because she was new to dating and had some bad experiences already)... I asked her to a local sushi restaurant, and we really hit it off on the first date. And we are still going strong...

So all in all, a year that heralded some extremely major changes to shake things up. Started off really shitty but ended up being quite awesome. But since I have so much on my plate (new, demanding job... girlfriend... lots of friends' weddings and other social commitments), it went over far too quickly and I hardly ever get any time to just chill and be all reclusive and introverted :( Gaming has taken a bit of a backseat lately, as well as some of my other solo hobbies...

- couldn't run for about 5 months due to plantar wart clusters on both feet. i missed the half-marathon i wanted to run.

meh: i got promoted to principal lead, which pays bankola but basically requires i become a sociopath.

gay: spent a lot of time at the gym grunting

i don't remember anything else; or, well, i actually DO but the sense of ennui around these events keeps me from any desire to expend the heat energy on keypresses describing them

Pretty okay year honestly:

+ Finally done with school with minimal loans (on 30k which honestly isn't as bad as it could be)
+ Fucking awesome job and a promotion in June, now a project manager at a very successful start up
+ Family is closer than ever -- nephew Finn with CP is walking in an assisted walker and is super vocal, and now going to school three times a week. He's doing great considering!
+ Money is good and not as burdened with bills as I was last year despite the loan payments
+ Only paying 300 bucks a month for rent ( :lawd )
+ kicked my alcohol habit -- now only drink on social occasions. Haven't drank alone in 7 months!
+ Had a healthy relationship

- Ended the relationship a month and a half ago
- Sex was severely diminished this year
- Most of my friends moved away from Nashville
- Weight has definitely become a thing. I weighed 176 for a 6'0 male about two months which I think is technically overweight by 8 pounds I think? Since then I've been way more self-conscious about my eating habits and exercise. I play pick up basketball every other day and life on Tuesday/Thursdays so its been getting better, now down to 170 even. Gotta get this gut out of the picture.
- Been spending more time alone than in years past. this could be seen as a positive or negative
- Steelers suck

It's been okay. I'm trying to get out a bit more to meet new people since all my friends have left the city. Been meeting a few cool people the last few weeks, so thats good.

- I can't live on my own due to the amount of money I currently make.
- I've been steadily packing on all the weight I painstakingly lost back in '11 & '12 thanks to my sedentary lifestyle.
- My social life hasn't picked up since June. Probably because:
- By the end of each week I'm so tired that all I want to do is laze about and do nothing but waste time on the internet.
- All of my acquaintances from college are busy with their own shit.
- My best friend now lives in Texas and recently married a mom with two children & his job is keeping him busy as well.
- I don't procrastinate as much as I used to but it's still an issue I'm combating on a day to day basis.
- More hours are being added to my work schedule which means less time for recreation & self improvement.
- I still live in South Carolina.

So, eh. Overall, could've been worse (like 2009) but naturally I wanted things to go better.

Anyways, here's to 2014.

I spent 2012 actually working in the USA, which was great, apart from living separate from my family. But I came back to Japan for family health reasons by the end of the year.

2013 has been a "yay" year for everything except income. This month I founded a new company here in Osaka, and will be seeking new contracts starting with the new year. Family time has been great, after having been away for all of '12.

Driving Instructor crashed the AMG at Sonoma Raceway causing severe nerve damage to my leg
I'm still overweight
I started to get insomnia and severe anxiety
I'm a mess mentally and psychically
Met some amazingly intelligent people
I have no rights to the startup I helped startup
I still work for those assholes who fucked me
I can't find work outside of my consulting
I fail at most things in my personal relationships
Still can't have kids even though we've tried
Still not married even though I've been with the same girl for 11 years.
I didn't get to see my family enough
Still don't have medical insurance cause I've been denied
Still don't have any friends

Gay:
I went to court way too many times this year for things I didn't even do.

As for everything else, this year was better than last year but still hovering close to nay. Changing career slightly has made a big difference, I no longer dread getting out of bed. New job pays more, is more interesting, slower paced and has more room to do different things, but at the moment though there's less to do and doubles my travel time. Old job was easier, had some great perks (got to travel a lot and go to e3), and very close to home. However it was exactly the same shit I'd been doing for 6 years, was incredibly rigid and deadline driven and would be the same for the foreseeable future too. So I made the right choice in the end, although

- ... in rain and thick fog
+ Despite 3 week (partially work funded) US trip, managed to stay out of debt
- Having to budget for a wedding & tea ceremony
- Wedding planning & other assorted shit means less time for vidya
+ Didn't waste money on "next gen"
+ Got to spent time with one of my good close friends & his wife in SF for the first time in 5-6 years
+ Started playing basketball again

Been to NY and Canary Islands, headed to London next week, planning vacation to Australia for next year.
After two years of spending money on a new house, the cash out finally stopped and we saved a nice sum of money.
Ran all personal records this year.

No huge things, but yay as per usual.

I fret over funds a bit but generally a good year and going in the right direction so yay I suppose.

- really need to decide on staying with job and getting a master's, or moving to something more exciting and a better fit. I think I should go back and get my studies done. I mean, I only have nightmares about college once a month these days (15 years later), and a master's in something like CS or operations research would do a lot for my career in the long term.
