I think I figured it out, guys
Batman Begins $206,852,432
Jumper $80,172,128
TDK $534,858,444
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance $51,774,002
TDKR $448,139,099
Man of Steel $291,045,518
If you're a studio exec and someone wants to get a superhero movie made, you're probably gonna ask if the guy who is batting .667 on movies grossing over 100 mil is available to work on the story or write the screenplay.
Of course, nerds are mostly to blame, because they'll go see fucking ANYTHING nerd related, even if they just want to bitch about it. Case in point...
edit: left out the Blade movies he did, but that was a) before he was somebody, generally speaking and b) back when superhero movies didn't really gross like gangbusters.

we will all watch opening week and complain about it, then buy the collector blu ray at a premium msrp
-
I don't think we're having the same discussion. "Quality" is not something that matters for movies to studio execs. "Box office gross" is.

I am the Ur-Neckbeard, brehs. Seen my latest pics? That thing is MAJESTIC.

I hope it turns out well against the odds. If you don't like a Batman or Spider-Man movie it's really no biggie. You get a billion movies and cartoons and comics and videogames of those characters anyway, so you'll never have to wait too long for another interpretation. Sandman is like Watchmen: a big deal for comic geeks, but not something that's going to get a big budget for a film reboot every few years.
-
Yes, damn all those wanna-be nerds inflating the box-office success of these shit movies in an effort to fit in with all the real nerds at your local comic book shop...

lol enjoy your movie nerds while I hit the vip room, pop bottles and get pussy

Cool. Will watch. I've seemingly liked everything Goyer has been involved in. I guess to stupid nerds that makes me a wanabee need, but anyone dealing in nerd caste seriously needs help.
But I don't think Sandman is something he can get. Even his good movies(Batman) lack the subtlety and nuance of Sandman. They really are in your face with thier writing. So I kind of doubt this will work. Whatever though I like Sandman so I'll see this if it ever comes out.
Also you need a really visual director. Don't know anything about JGL's.

Bout time we're getting a new Matrix movie.

Surprised this took 18 replies :lol

A fantasy retelling of Romeo and Juliet in which the Lord of Dreams (Gordon-Levitt) falls in love with the physical incarnation of Death (Jennifer Lawrence).
-
Jennifer Lawrence with jet black hair!

Doesn't really phase me too much, even if it sucks. It's kind of a given that it'll be hard to adapt, so it's not even like you can be mad at some great missed opportunity.
I haven't seen Don Juan but I don't get an impression JGL is any sort of great visual director, which is pretty essential to getting something out of this material.
-
I'm trying to think of a Sandman storyline that would fit into a 2 1/2 hour movie without coming out a rushed mess, and I'm drawing a blank. I think I'd rather see a cool period-piece Wesley Dodds Sandman Mystery Theatre movie instead.

Oddly, I'm referring to the Blade movies, because that's the source of one added feature I'd seen which turned me off on him. He interviewed himself, talking about moving from writer to director, and the guy was clearly so far up his own ass that he was looking out from his tonsils.

I was thinking exactly the same thing when I read the thread title.
