The regular sale prices are all the same, the dailys/flash/etc. will probably have more stuff since it runs a lot longer.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising tomorrow for 20 smackers on Steam (possibly Amazon). Amazon says the release date is Jan 9th, so I'm not sure whether it's just the preorder that's going on sale or if Amazon has the date wrong.

All I want for Steam sale is a discount on the Pinball Arcade season packs.  Hell, give me $10 off and I'll be happy since they really don't like giving deals but they're the only good Pinball game in town!

Yup, looks like pretty much the same sales and same sales percentages as the Thanksgiving sale.  Not that I expected different when they're less than a month apart.

It's kind of silly they do big sales for both since it's just the same sale.  Also fwiw the Spring/Summer sales always seem to have better deals probably because that's X months after new games of the previous year have been out, so they're finally hitting 66-75% off.  In the fall it's like 25-40% off anything even slightly recent.

Might bite on the Stanely Parable for $9 at 40% off because I'm seeing it on so many GoTY lists.  But I know it'll be in that 66-75% group in the spring so dunno.

Post by: Bebpo on December 19, 2013, 01:11:31 PM
Oh and as expected there is no sale at all for The Pinball Arcade tables, unless they become a daily or flash, but kind of doubt it.  Farsight is pretty f'ing stingy about sales for this game.

Yeah I checked the Bioshock thing to. It's not $5 on my end either. Though I guess that's good, it's keeping me from wasting even more  money on that crap.

I just want to play it because Elizabeth looks hot

Got Aliens though. So I guess I'm playing crap either way.

I wonder how the Rising PC version is. Won't be buying it this time though. $20 is too rich for my steam blood.

I've been hoping to catch Bioshock Infinite Season Pass on a price mistake ever since the DLC came out, because I knew it would happen, so I always check every time BI is on sale on any site. And the one time it actually happens, I miss it.

Post by: benjipwns on December 19, 2013, 04:45:33 PM
Only real problem with CS:GO is only three maps (and pretty lame ones at that) still for Arms Race. wtf is this shit Volvo

Otherwise it's basically CS:S with way better graphics. (And a lot of servers taking advantage of the instant respawn deathmatch mode option. Which I don't mind because you can have it randomize your weapons each life and I kinda like that tweak to the formula.) Though I'm sure CS fans can complain about all the nuances.

So much for saving the games industry, right?

I already bought the game at $90 fucking dollars for the Japanese import at launch  ::)

I didn't even like the game that much.  Was a letdown as a Platinum title, as an MGS title, and as an action game.  4 hour barebones game rushed out the door in a 1 year quick quick quick development because the project had failed under Konami.

But I'll still give them $5 for the effort of making a PC port because I'd like more PC ports and I'm curious how the game would look at 1080/60fps with v-sync and 4xAA just from a graphical perspective.  Plus I never played the 2 DLCs and they're included so I'd have a reason to at least get an hour or two of game out of it and $5 sounds about right.

Nah, as shitty as MGS4 is (and man is the 2nd half of it shitty), Acts 1 & 2 and the ONE AREA of Act 5 are pretty amazing awesome stealth MGS and way better than anything in MGR.  MGR is better than Acts 3&4 and the story in MGR is better than MGS4 because it's just as bad but the cutscenes are half the length and you feel less guilty skipping them all after a certain point.
Title: Re: Steam Christmas Sale 2013
Post by: Bebpo on December 19, 2013, 06:06:19 PM
It's been a bad generation for MGS though.  Portable Ops, 4, Peace Walker, Rising all have good qualities but they're all flawed and a big step down from MGS3.  MGS Ac!d 1 & 2 are probably the best "MGS" games this past gen.

Reaaaaally hope MGSV is a comeback.  We shall see but I've got my $50 dollar-for-a-demo PS4 retail Ground Zeroes import pre-order in already so I'll keep paying Kojima regardless.  Not expecting much out of GZ, but am expecting a lot out of The Phantom Pain in 2015.

The 360 version of Max Payne 3 is really good, but I've been meaning to replay it. Might as well do that on the PC. At $3.99 why not.

Still jesus 30 gigs.

So far I'm at:

Aliens CM-I got it from Amazon, but I think Steam also had it for $2.50
The Secret World
Alice Madness Returns
Max Payne 3
Final Fantasy VII

I hope Final Fantasy VIII goes on sale, but I doubt it will. Will probably buy The Walking Dead when it goes on sale. Kind of want to get that Bioshock DLC.

Now +
The Walking Dead Plus DLC
Counter Strike GO.
Final Fantasy VIII
Skyrim
State of Decay

Man, Rockstar's social club is quite awful.

I can't even play Max Payne 3. At first I couldn't even link my steam account with it to verify the game. It would basically just hang there. Turns out you had to manually update the social club exe file.

Ok fine, got through. Had to watch the opening cutscene and couldn't skip it. Finally got to the menu to change settings and then had to restart. Ok, except now I'm at the login and it's just been hanging there for the last hour. I just want to play the single player. I get that the game may have a lot of traffic, but still this is a  year old at this point. There's no excuse.

Played about 30 minutes of Eldritch, it's pretty good! Simple all around, but in a way that rogue-likes should be. A little on the easy side, though, I'm down to the third level and I've only been hurt because I tried to jump over some spikes.

Anno games are primarily about supply chain management first, and city construction and population management a close second. They play very differently than Sim City but scratch the same itch in the general sense, though if you are looking to play a SimCity game with all of that franchise's expectations Anno will not fit the bill.

They are also gorgeous.

I replayed Deus Ex 1 like a year and a half ago. It holds up well outside the visuals. Super fun game.

Also Invisible War is not a bad game by any stretch. It gets trashed because it's not the landmark game the first game was, and the environments in the game are smaller due to concessions to the console version. Oddly enough Thief 3 has some of the same issues but doesn't get nearly as much hate.

This is the truth. I played both a few years back and enjoyed them, though the original is clearly superior.

Human Revolution is still the best.

Bioshock Infinite season pass for 5 bucks

 :ohhh

that must have been a misprice, because it's showing up at $20 for me, and i'd sooner wipe my ass with a $20 bill before i gave it up for that little content

$5 for real this time?

Does it open up more? I'm pretty early but it seems pretty linear so far.

Controls are a bit to get used to. Super sticky to walls and stuff.

Yeah, link was instantly emailed to me.

Stoney it was a daily Humble deal, but someone else had it for $10 in late December too.

I've probably spent close to $80 now with EU IV and Football Manager 2014. But I've made about $20 from cards so its not too bad.

I wonder if I should jump on Arma 2 CC for $7.99 just to dry DayZ. It just seems like I could go either way with the game. It sounds cool. It also sounds a bit annoying and it is built on a military sim and well I'm use to BF and CoD shooting.

Do it. The servers may be dead due to Standalone but it's a good "demo" to see if you want to drop the $30 on Standalone.

Just note that Standalone improves somethings (since it did a complete re-write of the Arma 2 engine IIRC?) that the mod has and the Standalone doesn't have some of the stuff that Mod has (yet). But for $5-10? You'd be saving yourself some disappointment in the long-run if DayZ isn't for you.

Weird noticing the time and not checking for the new flash sale and community vote.

Only spent like $25, although not really because I had at least five bux in card monies.
Guacamelee
The Swapper
Don't Starve (during price error, wouldn't have otherwise)
Serious Sam 2
Kairo
Unholy Heights
Rogue Legacy
Mark of Ninja DLC
Swords and Soldiers SAUSAGE FEST DLC (to go over to get a card)
Trials Evolution Gold
Two Tribes Pack (because it was cheaper than Toki Tori 2+ even with the one of three thousand coupons I have for it)
Crusader Kings II: Songs of Yuletide (FREE)
BL2: Headhunter 3

Got gifted Far Cry 3

Probably spent more elsewhere (Amazon/GMG):
Fable
Tomb Raider
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger
10,000,000 (then wound up buying this for my kindle too after being obsessed one night :-\ )
Anachronox

No D-pad support?

Keyboard and mouse works fine, but it's kinda assy to me because I don't like playing 2D platformers with KB/M. But I wouldn't say Spelunky's controls are junk, far from it. It's "tight" just the method of control needs to be D-pad and buttons for me.

Skulls of the Shogun is the new daily. If you haven't picked it up yet then you have no damn excuse now.

Would've 100% it by now if I could find someone kind enough to keep feeding me troops over a long match. The one issue I had with the game was almost nobody willing to finish a game unless they were kicking my arse. I've got 4 asynchronous matches going where my opponents haven't made a move in months and I'll be damned if I'm the one that quits.

Got Wizardy 6,7,8 Pack and Deponia on Steam, FF3 on Android and Europe Universalis IV on HumbleStore, spent below 15€, not too bad, although I probably didn't need another hardcore time intensive rpg series. Also forgot to buy Papers Please, but it'll be soon enough on sale again I guess.
