I got Diablo III on Xbox 360 and learned that my wife played Diablo as a kid and loved it. So we've been playing together and having a blast. I was jealous of some of you guys who had wives that played video games and now I have one! But I need this to continue after we beat D3 so what are some other great local co-op games that aren't sports or FPS? (She can't handle FPS controls yet.)
-
There's of course the Gears of War games. Also the Resident Evil games. Though these are third person shooters and well I don't know if thats a problem since fps are a no.
And to continue these bad recommendations there's all those Dynasty Warrior type games.
I believe at least Saints Row 2 has local co-op? I don't really know.
Dungeon Siege 3, but it's kind of meh. May work since you liked D3. Fable games also have co-op.
Families love those Lego games for the co-op. Can't say much about them other then the recent Marvel one looks good.
I'm also going to just throw this out there and say Tales of Vesperia. Don't know if you like jrpgs(especially super animu ones) and it's not completely co-op. The battles are co-op though. A friend I know had a fun time playing it co-op with his gf.

Castle Crashers, maybe?
-
If you're gonna get a SR for co-op, get SR3
edit: also, supposedly the Sonic All Stars Racing or whatever it's called is a really fun kart racer. I would imagine it's got co-op.

beat em ups are good because they're simple and easy to control. me and my wife went thru Scott pilgrim and it made that busted ass game fun.

If you want more diablo, the following can be considered:
Sacred 2 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001IKHVTE/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001IKHVTE&linkCode=as2&tag=thbo09f-20)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000G82KU4/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000G82KU4&linkCode=as2&tag=thbo09f-20) - Make sure you get the GOLD EDITION (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OPPR22/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000OPPR22&linkCode=as2&tag=thbo09f-20) as it contains DLC that you cannot buy anymore
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UWGBC8/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001UWGBC8&linkCode=as2&tag=thbo09f-20) - I honestly do not know why the value of MUA2 skyrocketed. Unfortunately, the DLC was pulled and can never be purchased again.
Search on eBay or your local game stores.
Although after Diablo, these games might be like, super bad to you in comparison.

Splosion Man and Ms. Splosion man are fantastic co-op games, the co-op levels are really designed around communicating with the person next to you. Lots of screaming followed by high fives when you nail the hard part. Be warned platforming chops/history are required to enjoy these games

Check out this list:

-
Double Dragon Neon
Castle Crashers
Most of these titles worth playing will be digital only, keep in mind. Alternatively, Sega Genesis Collection should have local play and it is full of good two player games.
-
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
-
Battleblock Theatre might be worth checking out.

I thought of these games, but yeah, I figured they were a little tough.
I didn't think of Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed, but that game fucking rules.
