Title: Rate this PC rig
Post by: Cerveza mas fina on January 10, 2014, 10:54:23 AM
Tight budget, goal of getting through the next 5 year with a maximum of one cheap GPU upgrade and maybe another 8GB ram, while staying ahead of PS4 and Bone in performance.

It's either this or a keeping my Asus i7 laptop with the Geforce 555 for some PC games and buying a PS4 at some point in the future.

Two sticks of dual channel RAM is better than one. I can't really tell from that image, but I assume you're just getting one 8GB or 16GB stick. I've never used ADATA and I don't know much about it, so I'd personally go with Corsair, but they're probably fine.

Other than that, it looks like a good AMD build.

Yeah dual channel is better true, wanted 1 8 gb first. Might as well get two.

Cost is like 700 euro for this now.

can you push to this card: http://skinflint.co.uk/eu/xfx-radeon-hd-7970-double-dissipation-edition-fx-797a-tdfc-fx-797a-tdjc-a723345.html? it would push the GPU from around the same as a PS4 to comfortably above it, which is where you want to be really.

use that site to find all your parts. it's a crazy good resource if you'reapee'n

That's about £580... good chunk above asking price for Xbone and PS4, but would headwalk's suggestion have it comfortably smoke em?

If you want to be a step infront of the new consoles and buy an affordable system, wouldn't it be be better to wait 6-12 months? Your alternative sounds like you don't want it thaaaaaaaaaat much right now.

Go with the AMD 8350. It's not much more.

I cant do the pc in a year, we need a new one next month.

Either well buy a cheap laptop for 400 or ill build a new rig and give my laptop to my fiancee.

Might be the better solution. The PC would have been outclassed fairly soon anyway.

Nope, keeping this baby. It can get really annoyingly loud when the fans spin up past 55%, but that only seems to happen when the hot air from my case isn't pushed out fast enough. I turned on the top fan again and set up a custom fan profile that doesn't spin up as quickly and it's been nice ever since. I don't have any extremely graphically intensive games installed besides Risen 2 and that's not really all that taxing (or pretty) regardless, but it does run a lot better now and at highest settings. I guess I'll need to re-install Crysis or something...
