Fuck this we're all doomed.

So Obama just happens to have this big televised speech ready to go for today, the same day where this comes out?

The mayor of OKC doesn't know the difference between debt and deficit. Good lord. Why do I watch these responses?
-
Thought Biden spent the whole speech suppressing his urge to strangle Boehner... a decent speech, lots of fluff and ideas that sound great in theory but will never work due to the dysfunctional Congress.

The official GOP response was Cathy Rogers. Paul and Mike Lee gave their own responses, maybe hosted/endorsed by some outside groups, not sure.
-
Lee's was the "Tea Party" response, which Paul did last year. Paul's this year was...I guess because he had ten minutes to kill?
-
It was less of a republican response and more like a conservative comment section.

I am interested in the 'MyRA' thing. Probably sent a chill through wall st. though.

‘Bette in Spokane,’ cited in McMorris Rodgers’ speech, declined health insurance options
The woman described only as “Bette in Spokane” during a nationally televised address by U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers said Wednesday she had no idea her frustrations over increasing insurance premiums would become part of the Republican attack on health care reform.
Not that Bette Grenier, a critic of the Affordable Care Act, minds that much.
But the “nearly $700 per month” increase in her premium that McMorris Rodgers cited in Tuesday night’s GOP response to the State of the Union address was based on the priciest option, a $1,200-a-month replacement plan that was pitched by Asuris Northwest to Grenier and her husband, Don.
The carrier also offered a less expensive, $1,052-per-month option in lieu of their soon-to-be-discontinued catastrophic coverage plan. And, Grenier acknowledged the couple probably could have shaved another $100 a month off the replacement policy costs by purchasing them from the state’s online portal, the Health Plan Finder website, but they chose to avoid the government health exchanges.
“I wouldn’t go on that Obama website at all,” said Grenier, 58, who lives in the Chattaroy area and owns a roofing company with her husband. “We liked our old plan. It worked for us, but they can’t offer it anymore.”
She said she contacted the congresswoman late last year to complain after getting a letter from Asuris Northwest advising that her $552-a-month policy no longer would be offered. She sent the congresswoman’s office a copy of the letter, which included the rate quotes for the suggested replacement policies.
Although the couple’s catastrophic plan had a $10,000 deductible, it included four doctor visits per year at no additional out-of-pocket cost, she said.
The replacement policies offer lower deductibles and broader coverage, she said, but they didn’t include the doctor visits at no extra charge.
Fed up with what they considered limited, pricey choices, she said she and her husband have decided to go without coverage.

Go without cheaper, better insurance because you don't like the president, brehs

$600/month for catastrophic coverage. :yuck
But those four doctor visits a year where you don't have to pay a $15 co-pay are totally worth it. Really adds up.
-
10k deductible, 600/m premium. For catastrophic coverage.
:dead
And she wants that plan back.
-
I'm paying $350 a month for a silver plan with a $500 deductible and $5/10 co-pays :heh

When Obama said "if you like your plan, you can keep it" he didn't count on just how utterly stupid so many people in this country are.

WELL WHAT IF YOUR HOTSHOT COMMIE SOCIALIST LAW FORCES INSURANCE COMPANIES TO STOP OFFERING AWFUL PLANS, AND WHAT IF I *LIKED* THAT AWFUL PLAN? WHAT THEN, MR. BENGHAZI???
-
I have a friend whose mom is uber anti Obama. Her insurance plan was cancelled due to Obamacare and she threw a fit. It was an 8k deductible plan, about $500/m premium.
After weeks of complaining he sat her down and showed her she could get a 1k deductible plan with a $300/m premium, and better coverage options. She yelled at him, refused to sign up...then a week later called him and said "can you help me find that Obamacare plan again..." :heh
I helped shovel her driveway last month, alongside her son. Somehow Obamacare came up so I was like "I heard you got covered." She said "yes but Obama still lied..."
:neogaf
-
Some of those insurance plans were just downright scams, it's incredibly that people actually thought that paying $6,000 a year for an $8,000 deductible was even remotely a good thing.
