Giving a shit about late night talk shows in the 21st century :heh
-
Headlines was pretty cool back in the day. I think when they did it on a permanent night, Monday's or something, was the only time I ever watched The Tonight Show (other than Conan's final meltdown week) enough to be considered "regular watching." (And I had no cable in my room so it was like watch that bit, watch Night Court re-run on some other channel, watch Conan bits, back to reruns/infomercials.) This was like during the dial-up/early DSL days so you had plenty of down time waiting for all the garbage like Quake sounds to load because the UT/TF/DoD server was trash.
And I'm always a sucker for Jaywalking type segments. Of which there are plenty to find on YouTube these days.
The only interview segments I can ever remember are like Norm Macdonald or whoever not giving a shit on Conan. And even for the bits only stuff like Conan going to a toy store and fucking around or whatever.
I probably have spent more hours watching The Larry Sanders Show than these inferior and higher rated competitors. Can even watch reruns of entire episodes of that.

I think the last time I watched Jay Leno was in high school.
-
When he stopped paying for the site and went off to fuck his heffer girlfriend instead.
-
Remember when Jay Leno got involved at WCW? That Bash at the Beach (or was it Great American Bash?) was the first ppv I ordered. It sucked.

other then that, I've got nothing.
I loved how he closed out with a Garth Brooks song, the perfect musical analog to his act (popular but why?). It was a near perfect storm of mediocrity.

Came into this thread expecting videos related to the Conan fiasco.
Disappointed.

Conan fucked himself by going to TBS. No one watches that shit. Go to Comedy Central and make a sketch show. Fuck.
-
I really hate the way Conan spread his hands and then claps them together ALL THE TIME during his monologues.

I was pretty psyched to find out he got his own shown again. I've watched like ten episodes since then. I'm sorry but I can only watch so many Tyler Perry promos before I want to die.

Yeah, I don't really watch tv anymore. I trust that if something awesome enough happens on a late night show or whatever, enough people will share videos of it on social media that I'll eventually see it.

I watch Conan on his website -- try to catch one per week. If he doesn't have good guests and/or he isn't doing any remotes, I usually just get bored.

Remember the time BrandNew quit The Bore for several months because of :lenowned ? Good times.
I figured that with Jimmy Fallon taking over for Leno, maybe Conan would want to take over Fallon's show. The thought probably went through his mind a few times because I don't think anyone watches his TBS show.
If you haven't already, check this book out: http://www.amazon.com/The-War-Late-Night-Television/dp/0452297494
It's pretty even handed and sure enough, neither side comes out looking all that great. Cocotards were raging hard at this book because it didn't suck Conan off hard enough but this is a good, comprehensive, and objective book of the events.

While I don't care about any of this shit, I am a bit bummed about one thing. While The Roots are coming along with Fallon, I doubt the show will have half as many straight up hip hop performances, as it tries to appeal to Leno's older audience. We won't be seeing Joey Badass or whoever else on there again, I'd imagine.
The Roots have done some awesome stuff on Fallon's show. I remember thinking they "sold out" when I first heard about them joining the show, but they proved me wrong 100%.

Plus it shows his weird obsessiveness with the whole Tonight Show legend and concept and how caught up he is in his childhood memories of staying up to watch Carson.
Which is why when he went to TBS and was all "we can do anything, no limits, complete freedom, it's cable!" he has since put out five hundred episodes of basically the same thing he's been doing for twenty years.

I wonder if Fallon will drop stuff like the video game and hardware segments. I've never seen a whole episode of his show, but out of all the late night hosts he seemed the most in tune with new tech.
