Title: How secure are you on the net?
Post by: G The Resurrected on February 14, 2014, 04:59:17 AM
So I'm just wondering how secure do you feel on the net? What precautions do you take to keep yourself safe. Do you use a encryption, proxy, HTTPS, virtual credit cards, password managers? I bring this up cause I was talking to someone about their site and how unsecure it was and their corresponding script in their app writing all data without encryption of any type. Stating that if there was someone willing to go through the work of getting the data that it was fine. I don't like thinking about how much information is just out there, but its the reality of the net.

One of the biggest flaws we have are passwords, how well does yours stack up?

I don't want to believe it. I imagine a large network of computers could probably crack it in a short amount of time.

Are you guys posting your passwords on a random site on the Internet? Did you check the code yourselves or do you trust the disclaimer?

Just make sure you have a separate password for every site and use two-step verification for anything that's important.

It's not like the site has any way of knowing what the password is used for, or what username it would need to be paired with.

Seems like a good way to build a database for brute forcing passwords though :lol

25 thousand years. Any combination of caps and lowercase letters with numbers seems solid.

I use KeePass to generate and manage my passwords. I know exactly two passwords: the one to my Dropbox and the one to my KeePass database.

Come to think of it, I should probably add my email to that, in case I lose my KeePass database somehow...

weird, my social security number takes about 2 seconds, but my full name takes 655 million years. I guess I'll stop using the former as a password I guess.

I sometimes worry, when I can't get into a site right off, if the server is logging every password I've attempted... Because those are all me passwords for other sites.
