Title: Ricky Manning Took a "Wrong Turn" LOL
Post by: Flannel Boy on January 17, 2007, 12:20:06 PM
So says the New York Times in this article

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/16/sports/football/16manning.html (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/16/sports/football/16manning.html)

The article doesn't mention that, according to the Los Angeles County probation department report, Manning called the victim, Soroush Sabzi, a "taco" and a "fucking Jew". Manning and his pals hit and kicked the victim, even as he was lying on the ground. As a result of the assault Sabzi suffers from headaches and is unable to read. But this was all a "wrong turn" according to the Gray Lady.

Sports journalism is like entertainment or gaming journalism.  It's more about maintaining a good, reciprocal relationship with the people and organizations in the industry that you're covering than going through the investigative process.  It's why the guys who wrote Game Of Shadows weren't from the sports section of the paper.
