Pretty good. Nothing amazing, which surpised me. I thought it would be this uber cool movie, and it is, but it wasn't what I expected. Something seems...sloppy. Lots of the acting is pretty bad; after watching this, and Sin City a few months ago, I'm convinced Michael Madsen is one of the worse actors I've ever seen. His saving grace is his coolness, but unlike someone like Clint Eastwood he doesn't seem to be able to pull off a lot of stuff.
Another thing I wasn't into was the over the top nature of everything. Everything had to be yelled, everything was over violent, etc. And they're sitting around saying Nigger like it's casual lol; I understand what was being portrayed but meh.
On the plus side the movie was badass for the most part. The storytelling was very nice, and the ending was VERY unorthadox; I didn't see that coming.
8/10
Not a bad score! But, not a classic score either.

QT's best film. His career follows a downward trajectory from this point. 9.5/10.
-
So you think this is better than Pulp Fiction?
Also what do you guys think about Jackie Brown
-
Reservoir Dogs is an amazing flick
-
As I said, downward trajectory.
Quick rankings:
RD - 9.5/10
PF - 9/10
JB - 7/10
KB - 6/10
Grindhouse looks like its gunning for the next rung on the ladder, a 4 or 5.
EDIT: JB is incredibly underrated, PD. The only QT film Id say that about.
-
I saw some cool things in Kill Bill but I also saw utterly horrible things lol. The movie, from what I saw, goes from uber cool to bad in constant rotation. Then you've got some utterly horrible things that are repeated over and over again like the Quincy Jones song bit that's played whenever the bride sees someone who killed her. :-X
-
Having seen a lot of the films QT pays "homage" to in KB actually makes me like the KB films less.
-
Homage or stealing? I know a black chick (she's like 40) who hates QT with a passion for all the "stealing" he does, and how people view his movies and think he's a genius without realizing it
-
A bit of both. But basically, it really serves to do nothing but put QT's laziness up there on the big screen for all to see, and proves most of his detractors right.
-
What do you mean by lazyness. Like, his unwilling-ness to at least try to make his stuff more original compared to what it's replicating?
-
By laziness I mean paying homage/blatantly stealing from other films, instead of coming up with unique ideas. Like it was cool that RD was a send up of HK action films, and it was neat that PF was a tribute to French New Wave shit. But after a while, when you see that every film he makes is an homage to something, it gets a bit tiresome.
If you ask me anyways, QT is a middle of the road director. His real talent seems to be in writing.

Yeah. :(
Though PF and JB are classics in my mind, neither is QUITE as good as his first, and best, film.
-
No way do I think RD is Quentin's best. Anyone that says Pulp isn't his best is just being an iconoclast. Jackie Brown is fantastic, too, but the more leisurely pacing of the movie makes it somewhat less rewatchable than RD or PF.
RD is definitely a great and important movie, and it has some of Tarantino's best scenes and snappiest dialogue. Yeah, I think some of the acting is off mark, but to counterbalance there are some fucking excellent performances. A Keitel for every Madsen, a Penn for every Roth, a Tierney for every Tarantino, and a brilliant, career-making performance by Buscemi. And fuck, isn't Stephen Wright the radio announcer?
Great fuckin' movie!
-
RD is about a 9.5, while PF is a solid 9.0 -- I feel some of the more random scenes in PF (like the gimp scene o_O) throw off the movie too much for my liking.
-
I love Tarantino. Pulp Fiction is better than RD to me. Just a lot more content in PF and definitely more polished. Don't get me wrong, RD is like butter. Melts in my mouth and all that jazz, but it's just not as good as PF to me.
Also, for the Kill Bill movies...
Kill Bill Volume 1 - 4.0 - Holy fuck it's boring
Kill Bill Volume 2. 7.0 - Presentation is a lot better
I don't really mind his stealing of ideas, because he usually does it really well. I don't care if he took it from someone, it entertained me just like the originals did.
But it does seem like he's trying to reach out to different areas now. He's got his hands in a bunch of different projects now and I'm hoping he will do some more original stuff.
Tarantino <3

KB more boring than KB II?! :o

KB more boring than KB II?! :o
Yes. Besides the first fight scene in the movie, the rest were pretty boring to me.
(except the hot asian school girl :heartbeat)
-
I'm also in the PF > RD camp, but both are classics. I haven't seen Jackie Brown, and I thought Kill Bill was pretty mediocre overall. I liked the first one, but the second one was pretty bad. I don't know what Mupepe is talking about.
-
Pai Mei Scene > Everything in Kill Bill Volume 1
-
RD is not mediocre. You probably hated it because you never saw anything like it.
PF was good but it had absolutely no point.

Uh, Juice called KB mediocre. o_O
-
Yeah but PD said that some parts in RD were too mediocre.
-
Pulp Fiction had no point? Well, I guess am nintenho was behind in his quote of utterly distinguished mentally-challenged statements. The "point" is that the film is god-damned entertaining and provides a mish-mash of scenarios that all fit under the banner of the title of the movie. The movie sets out to tell entertaining stories in an interesting way. It wins!
-
I found Reservoir Dogs more entertaining...
-
Yeah, PF is definitely not a film like CRANK, i.e. a mindless mediocre jerk-off session.
-
RD - 9.0
PF - 9.5
Jackie Brown - haven't seen yet
KB - 8.5
KB2 - 9.0
I really like the KB movies. Even though there are parts that he rips off, they're just so damn fun.
-
Yeah, PF is definitely not a film like CRANK, i.e. a mindless mediocre jerk-off session.
See, you agree with my review. Remember I gave it a 7/10? MY REVIEWS > ALL
-
Yeah, I don't get the KB hate either. Maybe not in the upper-echelon of QT flicks, but definitely better than 95% of the crap out there today.
-
I honestly don't see why people thought Kill Bill was shallow. It's cinematography and story-telling was better then PF (which got full of itsself at times) and it managed to actually use 4 hours.
-
Maybe I have to see the films again...and back-to-back. The second part just didn't click with me at all.
-
The story does make a lot more sense when you watch the movie after you know it.
-
Excellent movie, very memorable lines/scenes. 9/10 the acting was fine.
Pulp fiction was also good and I love me some kill bill.
-
this gave me a chuckle
