They are adding all these old games and marking them as new because they are new to steam. Like shit like little divil from 20 years ago.

Also your recommended games are adding shit to them too. I've always hated buying on steam, but now i can not feel bad for buying games from other sites for games on steam like buying Dark Souls 2 for pc for $32 USD from G2A.com.

I don't like store curation on the part of a company. If Steam wants to add a "We Recommend" section on the store like the app store does then that's fine. But I always found it to be a problem that steam was as heavily curated as it was for something that aspires to be an open platform. If the New Release section is chalked up with a bunch of shit then revamp that section or better yet just improve the layout of the store in general which imo has always sucked.

I don't mind the old games so much if they're good, a bit more worrying is that it's becoming an iOS and indieshit dumping ground. If you look at just like the past 3 or 4 months, there's been a huge uptick in garbage looking stuff filling up the front page.
Edit: Watching the video, yeah, Strategy First is pretty much a garbage company.

My DL speeds have been fairly shitty lately.
-
What is with people throwing so many fits over the games posted to the new releases on the front page? NO EARLY ACCESS! NOTHING OLD! NO DLC! NOTHING SHIT!!!
Just do five seconds of research by actually reading the page for the game or more sanely just buy everything.

Company posts 20 year old game on Steam: :snoop
Nintendo posts 20 year old game on VC: :rejoice
-
The difference is that they mark the 20 year old game as new...
-
these aren't...very compelling arguments

No, they don't.
It says when it was added to Steam on the new releases and the game list, but if you actually go to the page for the game itself it says the original release date. There are a few games that aren't right, but 95+% of them are.

who logs into steam and buys litil divil without any other information than it is a new release
who are these people
-
They need new bodies to fill the void left by years of steam sale harvesting.

It'd be funny if somebody thought that was some hott new retro-styled indie title and they're throwing a shit fit because they found out it was just old instead.

Steam is awesome.

This is the problem. Greenlight has a bunch of mobile crap (sorry, Oscar) flooding into Steam to make quick bucks from a bunch of dipshits willing to pay $.99 for a mobile title on their PC. And that's more power to the devs that do that and rake in cash, but it's more an issue than dumping old titles on the service.
Frankly though, my problem with Steam (unless these new releases fixed it?) dumping old titles on the service is that Steam/publishers don't even bother to attempt to get them to work on modern operating systems like GoG does.
-
They'll be opening the floodgates soon, so everyone will have their own storefront, with Steam underpinning it. Dunno what they're going to do with their own frontpage though it's 100% going to be crowdsourced.

a pretty solid JPN/PC semi-manic shooter from the late 90's.
I like it.

Yeah, you're right. I'm better off waiting two years for The Pet Hotel reboot.

I mostly hate when they release shit that needs some bullshit to get it working. Like original doom games required fiddling- the soul reaver games didn't work- wtf do it like GoG or don't do old games at all.

I really wish GoG and Steam would team up, but that'd go against GoG'd "no DRM" if Steam strong-armed them into not allowing DRM-free copies through GoG.
I certainly would buy a lot more things from GoG if it had access to Steam wallet funds in addition to Steam community features like achievements or cloud saves.

I've never bought a game becuase it was presented on the storefront, except for steam sales. No idea how some old games presented as new on the store would make my experience with steams worse on the wohole /shrugs
