The entire Texas game dev community is pretty much WTF'ing at this announcement since it's nowhere near any local dev areas like Austin or the Dallas area. :lol
Except... it isn't as far for them. For EA Tiburon/Florida dev houses, they still have to travel an assload of miles to either South or East.
Might as well make six PAXs for North/South West/East and North/South Mid-west at this point.
San Antonio isn't a location rich in game developers like all the other PAX conventions. Sure it's a short trip for developers, all things considered, but San Antonio is a poor choice when compared to Dallas or Austin. Bigger gaming communities in those cities, world renowned game companies, and a ton of independents. I'm guessing PAX received way better convention pricing than either of those locations.
For attendees like you who are traveling out of state anyways I can see why it isn't a big deal but for me and friends in Dallas/Austin who attend for business and have booths, we just just find it funny that they didn't go where the gaming culture/industry is. So close yet so far!

Regarding FL dev houses, they don't really attend anything so it doesn't matter! :lol
Texas is a gay hotspot. Diversity Lounge will be full up.
I thought it was kind of fucked up that they segregated all the LBGT related groups to a small room separate from the expo floor. I see what they were trying to do (offer a friendly and inexpensive space) but it was mostly empty and depressing to see everyone huddled off into a small corner away from everything.
