The last few years have been painful for Nintendo: several consecutive years of financial losses, tainted image within the media and gamers alike, missteps in their introduction and launches of their new hardware (3DS & Wii U), amongst others - It hasn't been the most promising years for Nintendo as of late.
Nevertheless, I look at Nintendo's currently announced line-up of games for 2014 (with a few surprises surely to be followed at E3 for year-end) and I'm hopeful fiscally, and from a gamer's point of view. For example:
In Q1 (April - June):
3DS releases:
Disney's Magical World (April 11th)
Mario Golf: World Tour (May 2nd)
Kirby: Triple Deluxe (May 2nd)
Tomodachi Life (June 6th)
Wii U releases:
Mario Kart 8 (May 30th)
Bayonetta 2 (Late June)*
That's a very solid line-up (first-party titles only). Furthermore, Q2 and Q3 are building up to be powerhouses as well with Hyrule Warriors, X (Monolith), Super Smash (Wii U+3DS), a plethora of indie titles and several unannounced games destined to be unveiled at E3 such as their NFC title for Wii U.
Will 2014 be the year where Nintendo is profitable and software droughts are a thing of the past?

Nintendo will continue to rehash their franchises to death and go out of business 10 years from now.

Kirby looks like Kirby, which is always cool but not a system seller I don't think? Maybe Kart 8 will get some people to Weeoooo - it looks good but not something I'd throw $300 for the console and cost of game at it.

That's okay, once Nintendo finally convinces consumers that the Wii U isn't a tablet accessory for the Wii, demand will start surging and Nintendo won't be able to keep those bad boys stocked on the shelves.
