The next game in the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series is Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Ryuunosuke Naruhodou no Bouken for 3DS, this weeks Famitsu reveals.
Substituting the series Japanese names for their English counterparts, that could translate as Big Ace Attorney: Ryuunosuke Wrights Adventure. Though the Big in that context does sound a bit silly.
The game is set in Meiji era Japan and stars new protagonist Ryuunosuke Naruhodou, an ancestor of Ryuuichi Naruhodou (Phoenix Wright). Shintaro Kojima is producing, with series creator Shu Takumi serving as director.
A release date was not announced.
That's kinda neat. So I guess it'll be civil law instead of common law?

If you lose a case, you have to commit seppuku.
How about, in the localization, it takes place in the WILD WEST
AA2 had Pearls. AA4 was horribly mediocre. Didn't like a single case. CAN FEEL EMOTIONS WITH MY BRACELET. TRIXIE AND APOLLO ARE LOST LOST SIBLINGS. Just what.
I at least give AA4 credit for having the balls to realize the old cast's story was finished. AAI, AAI2, and AA5 were cowardly regressions. AA4 is actually in the top 50% of the series by now, and I expect it to keep rising with each new cash-in.

AA4 does have balls, but ultimately, the cast isn't as good nor do they stand on their own unlike AA1-3's. I haven't played AAI or AA5 yet, and AA4 was my last one. I thought Ghost Trick did the Phoenix Wright formula in a new exciting way, and I'm peeved we're not getting more of that.
I'm not sure I'd say their stories are finished after 3, either. For Phoenix? Ehh, maybe. He defeated his old "lover", but that was it. Maya? I'm not sure she's gotten a concrete ending and it certainly wasn't ended well. Same for Edgeworth and Gumshoe. If I'm remembering things right, 3 leaves the doors wide open for another sequel easily, unlike say, Yakuza games. Like, I thought Yakuza 1 ended Kiryu's story completely, and 2 should have starred a totally different cast despite Yak 2 being my favorite Yakuza.
Nah, come on, it was done. No, not everyone had all their details wrapped up, but the main character was functionally done. The same as with Yakuza 1. Did we know everything about Majima? How *did* he lose that eye? We found out eventually. We didn't need to.
I agree that Ghost Trick was way, way better than AA4, but I maintain that AA4 is the best thing out of the series post- its intended conclusion on GBA. I wish Shu Takumi was allowed to do his own thing, but he's not even allowed to leave Phoenix/Edgeworth behind anymore. Just look at that picture from the magazine. If ever there was an opportunity to leave Phoenix and Edgeworth behind, it would be going 150 years into the past, but no - gotta have Naruhodo cuz damnit he's the face of the series. It's Kiryu all over again.
Meiji-era Los Angeles is going to be a hoot.
Edgeworth games had pretty nice additions to the series such as free roaming in areas instead of a visual novel approach. But the story was wack.
seriously. blackwell was a convicted prisoner on death row, but he was somehow allowed to bring his sword into the court in AA5.

The silliness in court actually takes away from the investigation part of the game. You'd think you can 'jump the queue' if you've figured out a case, but no, you will rub everything on everything like in a proper adventure game. I have Apollo Justice lying around, still in shrink wrap. Eventually I'll play it, but I'm already steeling myself for the bullshit that's sure to annoy me at some point.^ newsfeedSuck your own dick, brehs.spoiler (click to show/hide)maybe not, but after typing that sentence I sat back and realised how powerful a rebuttal it was.[close]
