So here's the the thing, I want to start playing a sport that isnt baseball since I'm tired of that, dropped it a couple months ago. I asked around and some people suggested boxing and or karate. I gave up boxing yonks ago because I dont want to be hit in the face any longer, karate could work for me, I dont mind being hit, pain isnt a problem I just dont want a quasi modo face :stahp
I want to be able to do this sport for the next 10 years or so, so something an old 30s man will be able to handle would be good.
Suggestions on sports/activities?
What do you do?
-
My secondary problem is I cannot be arsed to go to gym/train for the sake of it, I've always trained in order to play X or do Y activity never for the sake of training alone. Hence why I need an activity to train for.
-
Do you practice? How long and how far along are you? Would you describe it as a nice way to stay in shape?
-
A lot of kickboxing gyms make sparring optional these days. If you want to just get the workout in, develop technique, and work the pads, that's usually an option.
-
Softball and Beach Volleyball are great sports for men to play. Mostly because you can find co-ed leagues and you can play blistering drunk.

I dont do kyokushin. I just know a few practitioners etc. I do xingyiquan / Hsing-I Chuan, a style from china. And any training is a good way to stay in shape as long as it has a significant conditioning component
Im 2 years into it, did boxing , tkd and wrestling before
Boxing was super heavy, I miss the training I dont miss the sparring :lol

This sounds good, it doesn't necessarily need to be a combat sport either I'm up for anything really Softball and Beach Volleyball are great sports for men to play. Mostly because you can find co-ed leagues and you can play blistering drunk.
Softball is out, it's too similar to baseball for me, I'd get bored. I used to play volleyball with a girls team to 'improve my jumping' when I was playing basketball so I could try that. :lol

And obviously any grappling martial art would be a good option too.
-
How much of Judo is grappling?
-
Yeah I learnt the hard way about the throwing when I was a teen, there isnt a significant mat grappling/joint manipulation/submission component right?
-
have you tried hot yoga?
