I can't tell if the cartoonist is being sarcastic or genuine. I'm so confused :(

That's the point. These cartoons would easily pass editorial muster in any smalltown shitheel paper in America. But when you run 'em in The Onion, suddenly it's satire, because the opinions they express are just dogmatic and jingoistic enough to be trenchant self-satire to The Onion's more educated audience. Context is everything!

The Mark Foley one is the best.  "WE ARE ALL MARK FOLEY"

I don't get that one. Is that like "we are all sinners"?

I love the crying Statue of Liberty. Those damn secular terror-worshipping libruls sure do make her sad!

I actually thought it was some real cartoon :lol Now knowing its from The Onion, its kinda scary that this comic panel/strip could easily pass for a serious thought on the subjects.

The Mark Foley one is the best.  "WE ARE ALL MARK FOLEY"
I don't get that one. Is that like "we are all sinners"?

It seems like in that case, the comic is trying to clump all Senators together by saying theirs no such thing as a Innocent Senator. Thus trying to take heat away from what Foley did.

EDIT: TVC is smarter then me  :'(

Around the time it happened, there was a contingent of people that believed Foley was tricked into the situation, and that it could've happened to anyone.  There was also the one page that knowingly played Foley's game for laughs from the other pages.  This comic is playing off that by going to the extreme of painting the pages as a group of horny young boys that wanted their fuckholes mined.

Speaking of which, Foley should be out of "rehab" by now.  Why hasn't our shitty, shitty US media hopped back on his ass?

malek, yup. The point is that the pages tempted Mark Foley, and that Mark Foley -- good innocent Republican senator that he is -- wouldn't be a God-hating cigarillo unless those teens hadn't tempted him into it!

I wasn't aware that anyone used that defense so that's why I didn't get it. After a quick search it seems Matt Drudge did, lol.

Often in cartoons the "reporter" is drawn wearing a fedora and here it is very appropriate.

Yeah, I don't think anyone tried to hold that defense very long, noting that it was fundamentally distinguished mentally-challenged.  I think it gained steam (and quickly lost it) when the one page admitted he was basically trolling Foley.

Is there a reason this story hasn't been picked up again?

Are you sure he is out of rehab?

Not positive.  He was reportedly going in for 1 month, and this was in early October, so unless things went disastrously, I think he'd be out.

PD, you are one slight inch from falling off the cliff of slightly left leaning moderate into extreme neocon. I have some sort of gut feeling one day you'll make that jump.

I'm a progressive liberal. That doesn't mean I should be anticipated to like Colbert's shit

I know I just get a vibe you are on the verge of someday just making a huge switch to extreme right-wing neocon style beliefs. And it is currently eating you alive.

Pretending to be 'KIDDING ALL THE TIME' makes it easy to back out of lost arguments.

It's pretty obvious when I'm kidding. Like the "raising minimum wage is extremist" spat I went on last night. Come on.

With respect to McCain... :(...

>>>Hillary.
