The students who attend Bob Jones University, one of the most conservative Christian colleges in the country, say that they’re often traumatized after seeking counseling from school administrators on the issue of sexual assault. According to an Al Jazeera investigation, Bob Jones staff members have responded to allegations of rape by telling rape victims they should repent for their sins.

Time is money :shaq

Speaking of time and money: I don't think it will be too long before BJU ends up closing its doors for good.
They're apparently not doing so well with their donors because they see that the school is (very gradually) becoming less conservative. Which is hilarious to me because BJU was pretty fucking conservative when I was there.
Also, BJU has been dumping a bunch of money into their sports teams thinking that it will attract more students to the school ...but I don't think that's working out so well for them.

Loyalty to coin alone is loyalty nonetheless. :hitler

When I was homeschooled we used A Beka, which is a Christian curriculum for schools. Super Christian, super religious shit. The history book noted that MLK lost his way once he started criticizing Vietnam and advocating for socialism, it was really hard on Bill Clinton, etc.
But later in middle school I played basketball at a Baptist school, and wound up taking a science class there. They used Bob Jones' curriculum and it was even worse. Bill Clinton was the most ungodly US president of all time, according to it, and the 8th grade teacher's guide also had a section about asking children whether they believed he was going to heaven or hell.
-
Man, I remember all the Bill Clinton hate as well at my private Christian elementary school. It's kinda hilarious looking back on it now.
And then when I was in middle school and GWB was president... Brehs, my teachers would've licked that man's taint if the opportunity presented itself.
Now I wonder what they're saying about Bams... :whew

:lol :lol :lol

The Baptist school also had a bulletin board that was labeled "The Ugly Board." There were pictures of nu metal rockers, Bin Laden...and Al Gore.

Sheesh, the worst thing that happened at Catholic school was our annual anti-abortion / abstinence only all grades assembly in the gym.
One year the speaker promised to come back and tell us about "The Matrix (as in the one of the hit movie series) of pornography" and how it would exert a hold on us in their talk next year but they never came back. What exactly they meant by that is my own personal Godot.

It was probably Harry Potter.

I remember going to some sex ed thing in elementary school that was basically "Hey kids, don't go gettin' the STDs from havin' the sex" and the presenter had to shut off the video really quick when it got to a part about condoms. :lol
-
Oh, I just loved it when my high school, for spiritual emphasis week, hired two "youth minister" types to teach us about how to have God honoring relationships in our adolescence.
Yet these two had never been in a serious longterm relationship and were still waiting for God to reveal "the one" to them. They were pretty much parroting all the shit I heard from my sex ed/abstinence teacher (who was also waiting for "the one" as well & was in his late 20s. Dude wasn't ugly either. Just batshit fucking crazy).
:goty2
And those youth ministers, or whatever the fuck, were both brother and sister. God, that was such an awkward week.
Conservative Christianity is so demonic. :tocry

brehs I remember one time in sunday school our teacher asked us to name as many Pokemon as possible. Naturally all the kids started naming tons of Pokemon (the OG Red/Blue era) quite enthusiastically. I sat in the back of the class, quiet, waiting for the trap. And after a few more minutes of Pokemon names being blurted out, the teacher sprang the trap. He then asked how many bible verses we could name, and only a couple people named some - including me. I recited Romans 4:5. I was such a suck up brehs.
:tocry
For the next few minutes the teacher shamed us for knowing more about secular entertainment than our lord Jesus Christ. Then he explained how Pokemon proves evolution doesn't exist, because there are no missing links IRL, and if evolution was real we would have evidence of first-evolution level animals. Basically because IRL there were no equivalents of Warturtles, Charmeleons, and Ivysaurs, evolution was wrong.
Dawkins annihilated

America is so fucked.

I will whip out verses from Ecclesiastes (usually 1:2, KJV translation) to appear pious in professional circles. Being deep undercover is a lot of work. :whew
Never hurts to know a good Bible verse or two brehs.
-
Ah, my religious days. Sometimes I'd eat dinner at a Pentecostal or Baptist friend's house. After thanking god for the food, each person would recite a verse. I'd again whip out Romans 4:5, but for trolling purposes since nearly all of my Christian friends were of a different denomination than mine, and believed in outward works to either secure or reinforce salvation. It's the ultimate troll verse to use against Gentiles who think they have to follow the Law. It especially rustles Baptist jimmies, and I'd often be asked by the mother or father "so...you were not baptised?" And I'd say "Baptism is not required for salvation in this dispensation, and Jesus' message of baptism was for the Jews, not the Gentiles"

When I was called into the Dean of Men's office at BJU about my unrepentant non-belief I basically took a staunch Calvinist position and used verses that backed up predestination.
It wasn't really my fault that I no longer believed in Christianity. God's will is perfect and it was in his will, since the beginning, that I would lose my faith.

I can't remember exactly what he said in response to that.
Probably some sort of compatibilist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compatibilism) answer.
