Had an iPhone since 08/09? Done. Not interested. Sticking with AT&T due to work discount$.
For reference, I use my phone to take pictures/video, surf web, FB, play a couple games, listen to music, check my bank account... I do have the app for my Nissan Leaf, which is clunky as hell and end up going to the web browser to check my battery charge progress. Not necessary. Only have one or two other apps I couldn't use anymore and don't really give a shit.
GO!

Windows Phone devices are really nice and the firmware is well-made, but there's very little third-party software support and that probably won't change in the foreseeable future. Any phone on the market these days will do the things you list in your post, so the best advice you're gonna get imho is just choose the phone you like best. You'd have to be trying really hard to get a shitty phone in this day and age.

Nice screen, decent camera, upcoming windows 8.1 update will let you install apps to SD, $99 but you can regularly find it on sale for as low as $50. You won't find an Android phone with those specs for that cheap.
-
If you want change, just go for a decent android phone instead.
Probably going to be cheaper, and will have a bunch more apps.
-
Thanks for the feedback guys. :) My husband has a Nexus 7 and I have a Surface RT, and I like the Surface infinitely more, so I was just reconsidering my move to Android. If it wasn't 12 inches, I'd be attempting to use it like a phone. :teehee
And yes, you can buy a shitty phone nowadays. See: my iPhone. What a pile of steamy. Never again.
-
Yeah I'm happy-ish with my 520.
Critics are raving! It's really cheap and doesn't suck all that much - recursivelyenumerable, The Bore

My 920 is pretty incredible. Built like a rock, extremely stable and has lots of stuff built in (like tagging music), OS is very intuitive and the camera is awesome. If you're into downloading the latest apps and games then WP is not for you. I don't really use any apps outside of browsing the internet and listening to music on my phone so I am good to go.
-
Lumia 925 has been a champ. 8.1 update is great.
-
With the OS and mandatory apps, I have enough free space on my iPhone to download approx 4 apps total, so I'm very familiar with not having any new apps. :P
Was looking at the 1520 but it's gigantic. At this point I would buy a phone with wheels and a carrying case to get away from Apple. I'll check out the 520, 920 and 925.
Thanks guys!

Windows phone is the worst of the 3. Apple or Android or nothing.
Buy it if you want 0 useful apps from 3rd parties.
That cool app that you heard someone talk about? Not on windows 100% guaranteed.
Seriously.
-
Cant remember the last time I saw an actual "cool" app :yeshrug That's why I'm on WP.
-
Yea I don't have a single cool app on my iPhone as we speak. Even if I did, it'd crash every three min anyway.

This is what I have. The buttons could be better but otherwise I'm very happy. I've used cheap android phones before and the 520 is easily the best low cost phone. I think the 520 will be replaced by the 630 (http://"http://www.nokia.com/us-en/phones/phone/lumia630/") at some point soonish
All the nokia apps are very good (music, maps, drive, etc.) and WP has enough big apps that I get along fine. I'll probably stick with WP when I upgrade if only because all the skydrive storage I've acquired and I like the skydrive website

Just checked WP App Store. The only app I wouldn't be able to get on WP is my Target Cartwheel app for coupons. They even have a Nissan Leaf app where I can start the climate control, check battery charge, etc. Spotify, BOA, My Fitness Pal, Netflix, all of that kind of crap is on WP.
I'll just install the Cartwheel app on my hubby's Android he'll get when he replaces his own shit iPhone. Bam problem solved!
-
For Eel and Recursive - How is the screen glare on the 520?
-
Um I haven't really noticed it so I guess it can't be all that bad?
-
That's good to hear. Every review I have watched has pushed me closer to ditching android and going with one of those cheap fuckers. The screen glare was my only issue.

Windows 8.1 runs the online Cartwheel app in IE perfectly :)
-
Keep in mind that even when they have the same app as iOS/Android, a lot of times it runs worse, lacks features and is more buggy. Spotify is soooo buggy on WP. Facebook isn't that great either.
I like my WP, very nice interface, decent camera, feels quality. But in 3 years or so when I upgrade I'm going android next.

YYEEEESSSSSSSSSSS
And you guys are severely underestimating how slow and buggy this iPhone is. I could browse FB with a dog turd and it would run better. It crashes out of its own native apps. I couldn't turn off my alarm yesterday morning. And this was a replacement to my even shittier broken iPhone, so I've only had this one a month or two.
My husband was only able to use half his screen the other day.
APPLE.
It wouldn't surprise me if the apps run better on Android vs WP because there's such a larger user base, but I refuse to believe WP apps could possibly run worse than the last couple iPhones we've had. My husband wanted the next Nexus, which I would've been ok with too. I'm not a huge Galaxy fan. I'm scared to get a cheap phone of any OS after being locked down to these shit iPhones for so long. There's something I hate with every Android phone on the market right now so we've been holding out for announcements. But jesus, I might lose it if I spend one more day with this phone.

If this is all you need then it's great. The camera on the higher end models are god tier shit, and the facebook integration is good. If you've checked the app store there's nothing you're concerned about then go for it.
Go into a store and have a play with one.

You can also pin the webpage for the online app to your home screen so it basically works like the regular app, just opens up in IE when you press the shortcut.

my lumia icon is crazy monkey sex, and takes great pictures.

In 3 years everything could equalize but the only sure bet is that all the mobile OS's will drastically change.

Late response but good article on what top apps are missing compared to iOS.

Wow. Did you talk about your iPhone in another thread? I must have missed all the fun stuff.
