Having issues with the honey quest. FU (lol) makes gathering harder than 3U because there's less context clues.

Where's the honey? Looked all over.

Maybe, but they won't play this game!  You need an iPhone 4S or iPad 3 at minimum to get on this bus.

Goddamn iOS privilege :'(

Outlook isn't good. RE4 and SF4 HD are limited to LG devices in South Korea. Capcom doesn't seem interested in porting unless they can get a moneyhat (the more things change, the more they stay the same :teehee)

Hmmm. Not sure about long sword in FU. In 3U I used long sword most of my 100 hours playing, but it doesn't feel right here. The move set doesn't allow for badass combos like in 3U. There's a tutorial for every weapon. I like sword and shield so far.

First hunt down. Monster tracking isn't as fluid as in 3U 3ds, but the better camera controls make up for it.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite iOS thread of touch gaming monhunting!
Post by: Himu on July 03, 2014, 09:16:33 PM
- Hit windows are smaller. Need patience and timing hitting even Giaprey's. This could be good or bad depending on  your taste. Or it could be that FU has a higher learning curve than 3U. Either way, so far, it feels like it requires more skill for some reason. Maybe this will change the more time I plunk into it, or maybe someone who has played the Freedom series on PSP can shed some light on what I'm talking about.

Class reviews:

Sword and shield: Not bad. Allows direct combat options, combos, mobility, and an assortment of defense maneuvers. You can sort through items when guarding, attack while guarding, combo potential is high. Suggested for MH nubs and being who like swords and shields.

Dual sword: combo heavy, fast and agile, lots of moveset options while looking fly as fuck. It also has a neat buff perk ability. It surprisingly takes advantage of smaller hit window by allowing you to get up close and personal. Suggested for MonHun nubs and people who want look cool while playing their game.

Great Sword: suggested advanced players and people who just want their enemies to cry. Despite its limitations, great sword - as usual - wrecks shit. It allows for an almost perfect balance of defense and offense. Its main weaknesses are its speed and lack of mobility. You cannot run while it's unsheathed.

Long sword: My preferred weapon. This weapon has a large reach but zero means for protection. it requires a better handle on timing than in recent titles because of the smaller hit window. Combos are also harder to pull off due to the controls, but it takes all of five minutes to get used to. Suggested for intermediate players and people who want to do cool combos while wearing asian farming hats.

Hammer: Want to knock the shit out of monsters while having the advantages of non-GS/Giant Hammer/Lancer classes? Pick this. Combos can be made up to three, heavy attacks allow you to paralyze monsters if hit in the head, and you'll smashing left and right. You can even charge it up and swing it while tearing monster flesh. Suggested for beginners and for people who want to wreck havok on reptiles and furry things.

If you're interested in the rest, here's a solid video overview by an annoying Australian.

Great Sword is my shit. :mynicca

Can you block with it in MHFU? Is it the same as in 3 (depletes sharpness)?

IMO that's the GS's main drawback. Defense is usually not worth the decrease in sharpness, so you're pretty vulnerable most of the time. The maneuverability drawbacks fade away once you get into the GS rhythm (run -> unsheath -> whack -> dodge -> sheath -> run.)

You can indeed block with GS in FU and it does deplete sharpness and power.

OK. Still my weapon of choice but I wish that nerf wasn't there. Especially with how awesome the new weapons in 4 look.

This is way tougher than 3U. My long sword sharpness decreases at just a few hits. It's crazzzzzy.

Yeah, that's what I heard. Tri was supposed to round some of the rougher edges out. Hitboxes and hipchecks in particular are supposed to be  more annoying in gen 2.

At least there's no water combat!

I'm now at a point where I've about mastered the controls. It's probably better than 3U's controls on 3ds. Shocking, I know. Touch has come a long way. Smaller hit boxes are tough at first, especially with long sword, and against small and fast enemies like the bugs and raptors, but eventually, you get a handle on it. I can't stop gushing about that becaause MH is one of the franchises in gaming that requires specific timing and perfect control layout to play it, and here we are, in 2014, playing it with touch controls. :bow The Learning curve in this one is :lawd even for someone who spent as much time with 3U as I did. :bow

Annddddddddd, upgrade long sword. :smug I've only done two lv 1 quests but I decided to gather ahead of time. Still got tons of machalite ore and iron ore left over.

Now to concentrate on forging armor! Giaprey armor set looks pretty easy. With my new sword, I can probably get that with the quickness. Now, for kut-ku coins... :ohhh

Yes, apparently. Oscar isn't in America after all.
I'm glad you're able to play with Oscar, but there are a number of ways which still would make this a valid question. They could be limiting it not by IP block location, but by user account country, and we're not sure if Oscar is using a US account or a JP one, or both.

You are spot-on on this; the 5C is an uglier version of the old 5, but the specs on the 5S mean you've got an extra year of new game availability due to iOS upgrades closing the gate on old specs.

That's not the first quest. If you're at the gathering ball do those later. Talk to the elder. Before the town exit, there's an old lady. She gives you quests. Do those.  The gathering hall is for higher awards and challenges.

I was going to suggest doing a scrape-and-burn, just restore the phone to factory settings and install everything from zero, but that would have cost you many game saves which aren't iCloud-enabled, so I'm glad you got it working.

You want to look at changing your GameCenter name and/or Apple user account name. I had forgotten your old name and was looking for your new name.

Dat loot. Dat huntin'. Dat monsteritis.

Tonight started level 2 quests. Want rare level 5 armor so I immediately went for the Ku-Ku. Wasn't bad, but it went down with a fight. Had to chase it all over the map and them it'd fly to a new location.

I cut him down though.

SMILLLLLE!

After taking down the Kut ku I immediately went to the training thing and fought a Kut ku for Kut ku coins. Went down easy with the arranged equipment I got.

Ive upgraded my initial light bowgun and now I stay alive at least.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite iOS thread of touch gaming monhunting!
Post by: Himu on July 07, 2014, 04:07:01 AM
Both.

Depends on the situation. For the kut-ku I fought in the training grounds, I paralyzed him, set a large sized bomb, then threw a boomerang at it, kablam. Then I hacked away. You should be using traps to cut the monsters hp.

A neat trick is to throw some raw meat, bait it by blowing a horn that calls monsters, then when it's eating the meat use a thunder trap, and hack away while it's being electrocuted or ready a bomb.

Just be creative. Be prepared.

Check and see what weapons you can buy.

Its still the starting 3 :/

I already made one new gun but it only took me from 156 dmg > 180 dmg with max upgrades.

Do new weapons only unlock when  you have new mats?

Khezu was easy, could pot shot him from the ledge where he couldnt reach me for a while. Even off the ledge he was slow.

Still no amazing new guns though that would be a big improvement :/

I've been playing this for the past two nights. I like it so far, but it is harder than I expected when I go my quest is not part of the tutoring from the Esteemed Master.

I cleared all of the tutor stuff fine. When I have tried to go on anything else I get my ass kicked badly.
