Title: Crypt of the Necrodancer (roguelike, dungeoncrawling, rhythm game)
Post by: fistfulofmetal on July 10, 2014, 03:47:29 AM
I've been watching Bananasaurus_Rex play this game the last two nights and hot damn it looks pretty cool

http://necrodancer.com/

Currently the only videos you'll find online are from youtubers and streamers who are being given early alpha access so a lot of them are a bit insufferable to watch but take a look.

Apparently it comes out later this month.

Looks really cool:

What happens if you break rhythm? edit: Ah, the coin multiplier, I see. Oh, and you can only move (and presumably act) to the beat.

This game has literally been at every gaming convention this year in some form or another. :lol

It got to a point that I would feel weird if I didn't see some dude on a DDR pad killing zombies while I was rushing to a business meeting. Ryan Clark really know knows how to hustle!

Nah but you can play the game using a DDR pad. Ryan always has one handy when he demos the games. It's usually why there's a crowd around the game too.

I'm sure I saw this at PAX and promptly ignored it if he was showing it with a dance pad.

There's a big competition going on this week for this game with a bunch of streamers. I'm watching Bananasaurus_Rex trying to beat the game on Aria mode which is basically, miss one beat = death

How many floors are on zone 1
Title: Re: Crypt of the Necrodancer (roguelike, dungeoncrawling, rhythm game)
Post by: fistfulofmetal on July 31, 2014, 02:52:02 AM
every zone has 3 floors and then a boss. there are 3 bosses and the game randomly chooses which boss you get for each zone and they don't repeat. each boss has three versions based on which zone you get them on, 1 being the easiest, 3 being the hardest.

I keep falling in to some hole. Does that count as another floor?
Title: Re: Crypt of the Necrodancer (roguelike, dungeoncrawling, rhythm game)
Post by: fistfulofmetal on July 31, 2014, 03:04:43 AM
You mean the trap doors? When you fall into a trap door before killing the boss on that floor it will take you to the next floor, however it traps you in an enclosed space with a few enemies from said floor and the boss you skipped. You have to beat the boss to proceed. If you kill the boss and then jump down a trap door you just continue on to the next floor.

Going into trap doors also resets your multiplier.

Well earned praise.

And congrats! Thoughts on daily challenges so far? I'd don't see you on the leaderboards?

this game is THE TITS

one thing I was not expecting is that it's very similar to Hoplite on iOS/Android ... if you know the enemy patterns and move smart, you won't get hit and you won't die. it makes it much more fun than just number crunching

of course you will still die a lot ;_;
